its crazy, and the 302A is about 5-6K more than the 301A up here in canada when i ordered my truck. Good thing i got DIY seat warmers

I am driving a Canadian XLR (not sold in the US, but imported by my dealer) from Canada. It is a XLT 302A. You are right they do cost significantly more than a 301A. Something like 6,500. Everyone asks me what an XLR is, I just removed the stickers off of the bed and now no more questions. lol The heated seats are a great upgrade ;)

Same thing for me with regards to when I had the Lariat controller with the Raptor case. 4H with the clutch only, allows for some slip between wheels, to the point you can literally drive around in 4H on pavement with minimal binding. Not good to do that, but that’s how it works.

4H locking drags tires and hops when turning on pavement, as mentioned.

Side note, my best time at the track was with 4A, 10.93, not sure if the lariat case would have worked at the power level or not.
I'm not sure if all TOD TCCMs start out with the same transfer case clutch strategy before you run a PMI, but on my TM379 I could drive in tight circles and figure eights while in 4H and I never felt any binding. It's been a couple years, but if I remember correctly (strong possibility that I'm mistaken) my TM379 TCCM ran a clutch duty cycle of about 30% in 4H. A normal TOD transfer case clutch is supposed to be run at 97% in 4H and obviously my Hi-Lock TOD is supposed to mechanically lock.

I still have a few spare TCCMs laying around, I might plug in a new TM369 to see what the clutch strategy looks like on a standard TOD TCCM before running a PMI. I also have a spare TM379 that I could play with.

I like the idea of the transfer case with mechanical locking and 4A, as I see some of you have installed. Too bad that's only on Tremor and Raptor.

I almost got stuck on the beach (Ormand, furthest North ramp for curious locals), deep soft sand, not like where I usually drive. The towing guy who was about to get paid $60 to pull me out commented that all the Automatic 4WD late model pickups seem to get stuck by spinning the axles at slightly different speeds (as the clutch slips), which makes them alternate digging into the sand...then he got me by saying "except that new Tremor, he just had to lock the center diff and was good to go." Anyway, I could smell the diff clutch as I managed to back my way out after making some adjustments (RidgeGrapplers aired down to 25, 4H, and the rear locker engaged). Apparently, Toyota went only with the locking center diff on the Tundra (even though 4A is on the SUV), for durability reasons -- per the towing guy in the Tundra. LOL

How would that relate to my XLT without 4A? I have 4L/4H and a 3.73 e-locking rear.

I'm not an expert on this stuff, but I believe your XLT has the ESOF (Electronic Shift On-the Fly?) transfer case (TC) that uses dog gears to lock the front and the rear together, so mechanically locked, no slipping clutches. That's the TC I'd want for driving in sand, mud, crawling on rocks, etc.

I'd like the hi-loc transfer case and have the best of both worlds (4A and locked 4H), but I don't want it enough to buy the parts and have a custom driveshaft made for my 157" F150.

Well for any of you that were following my saga finally today got everything working. 3rd tccm was the charm. IWE’s lock right up. And the tccm was programmed right out of the box from ford. Was $100. Not bad. Thanks to all those on hear that helped with suggestions and of course to Jesse for him remoting into my computer and taking time to help out. And not a moment to soon as I think today is our last warm day. Looking forward to the first snowfall to check out my 4A. ?

Astrand has IWE. I thought he didnt. Adding this stuff can be frustrating at times.

That’s an understatement! ??? I think it’s important to note that no matter your trim level before ordering the tccm one needs to physically put eyes on one of your front inside hubs and make sure you have iwe’s as at some point I think in 22 they started phasing them out. So better to take a second and look just to be sure. ?

Based on the usage listed for the various TCCMs used on our trucks, it looked like the eIWES got removed from normal TOD trucks starting on 11/15/2021.

For anyone who is interested in the this swap, I've compiled a list of the various TCCMs used in 2021-2023 F150s. This includes the engineering part numbers found on the TCCM stickers along with the Motorcraft and Ford part numbers. Ebay listings for used TCCMs often use the engineering numbers found on the sticker.

I hear you hindsight is 20/20. But the issue turned out that is that I got some conflicting information. And it seemed confirmed. So it wound up becoming a trial by error. In fact we found a 22 TOD truck (from factory) that had the eiwe’s so I think that there was a period of time when some trucks were getting them some weren't. At any rate I’m just glad in the end it worked out. And with not even needing any programming. That made things nice and easy. I do thank you for your input. Hopefully this thread helps others that decide to do this mod.

There are some issues with Ford's parts catalog relating to this issue. I've seen the catalog show eIWEs for trucks that don't have them, and I've also seen the catalog show the incorrect front axle shafts for certain trucks. Looking up the front hub assemblies to find out if a truck has eIWEs or not has been mostly accurate in my experience, but I still check 2 or 3 different parts catalogs to confirm part numbers. The real fun is when I get 3 conflicting answers for certain VINs where Ford seems to not have any idea what they built.
