This has been my solution as well.

AUTO on the 1-light setting (low fan)

put truck at 62-63.

once the truck seems to be a little too cold after 10-15 minutes, turn it up to 66-68.

and yes it works perfect in the summer also.

I believe this is a known bug. I had a '21 302A that behaved perfectly. My '23 302A was miserable re: HVAC regulation. A friend of mine that also jumped into a '23 experienced the same thing.

I've got the same problem on my '23 XLT. Came here looking for solutions. So far I've replaced the indoor temp and humidity sensor to the newer one, but that did not fix it. The issue is definitely more noticeable when the outside air temp gets colder.

I've also checked my vent sensor readings using the PID's in FORScan and comparing to my hand held temperature monitor and the result is the vent sensors and blend door appear to be working accurately, which tells me this is likely a software or calibration issue, and not a hardware fault.

Next time at my dealer I'm going to ask for any TSB updates on the HVAC system.

But why is this issue so hit-and-miss? My friend with the exact same truck, bought at the same time from the same dealer has zero issues with his HVAC, and when compared to mine we both agree there is definitely something wrong.

Odd, the auto temp control in my 1973 Chrysler Imperial worked fine. What, 50 years later, is Ford struggling with? I bet Ford has made plenty of good automatic climate control systems too, yet some of these trucks seem to be a huge problem.

this surprises me a bit that yours is off but friends is OK

I’d been assuming this was everyone’s truck. Not hit or miss.

if you find any TSB or any success please follow up.

I've been fighting the same issue for years, like others. For a long time I assumed that I was crazy or that my metabolism was varying as I drive at all hours. I've learned that sometimes it just goes nuts and you need to brute force it by setting a temp far in excess of what you actually want (e.g. too hot, set to 19C, too cold set to 24C).

I have a '23 XLT here. Mine's working as it should. It's cool during the hot, humid summer and warm so far during this late fall with temperatures in the teens.

I have a question, when manually using the front window DEF., is it normal to run HOT by default?

Interestingly enough, at this moment (12:09 Pacific on 12/13/24)my truck is getting an OTA update that has something to do with the HVAC operating more efficiently.

Will report back and we’ll see if this make any difference.

We get one of these roughly every 7 months or so. Never seen a difference outside of wiping my HVAC forscan changes

My 24 is the same. Set it in auto to 65-68 it will cook you out even at -10°F. Cracking a window helps or turning the A/C on seems to help as well as windows also frost up if I don't.

When I try to do manual a screen on the Sync pops up for distribution and I must say that seems disappointing because I only have a few choices for how I want the air distributed.

So if I were to pick the top annoyance, this would be it.

Had a minute to look at the wiring diagram for auto climate control and I see the following that feed the HVAC module:

Driver side vent discharge temperature sensor (is this the outer driver dash vent?)
Passenger side vent discharge temperature sensor (is this the outer passenger dash vent?)
Driver side footwell discharge temperature sensor
Passenger side footwell discharge temperature sensor
In-vehicle humidity, temp 1, temp 2, temp 3 sensor (it shows 3 temps coming from this sensor. Is it an IR sensor?)
Light/Sun load sensor is able to determine driver and passenger sun load
Ambient Air temp sensor (passenger outside mirror)

So, does sun angle determine sun load for driver/passenger? The three temps for the in-vehicle sensor is a head scratcher.

Plenty of sensors to determine the vent temps and cabin temps so a setting of 70F should be the same temperature year-round. An older Chrysler mini-van with auto climate did not struggle like this one does and the cabin in that was larger than this one.

There's several sensors that contribute to the issue. The big issue as I see it is that heat from an ICE is 'stupidly plentiful'. Regardless of outdoor temp, the ICE is generating loads of heat -- contrast that to the AC which has a capped capacity and the warmer it is the worse its cooling capacity is. It really boils down to the algo behind the temp doors which uses the sensors at positions where they're likely to remain cold while the truck is able put out 40-50k BTUs of non stop heat.

I use fan 5 trick to charge my battery arrangement. In winter I'll turn on all 3 vent levels and drop the temp especially if seat/wheel heaters are used. I don't use auto mode at all, manually control vents / fan / temp. Sometimes I use seat cooling depending on layers. Hand temp is the secret to controlling core body temp. Quite a bit of good science on the hand body core temp regulation that's come out over the last ~20 years that's had virtually nothing done with it. If vehicle manufacturers were smart, they'd put 'hyper heat' zones on the steering wheel as well as places for passengers to grab. A good bit of knowledge to have

Kinda bringing this thread back again.

was getting roasted this AM again and eventually had to turn it down to LO. It’s nuts cuz it was like 42F outside.

I’m gonna have the dealer check at some point. Maybe they can recalibrate something.

I also now have the MX+ OBD thingy so I’ll see if I can find what cabin thermometers may be reading.

Any success from anyone getting this resolved?
