now DO i just try and drain some off to push myself on the Service Manager that his service writer and mechanic just blew me off ($128 oil cost to change) and risk pissing them off when I need warranty work to something more dastardly happens to my Fabulous 5.0 Lariat..... Pisses me off that I even have to think about this based on principle. Decison decisions...

Either take it back and ask them to remove some or change it yourself now and going forward. If you're able to do it yourself, then you'll know it is done correctly every time. Ymmv.

Mine takes 7.75 quarts on the money. It needs to drain 30 minutes no joke to complete empty. The first oil change I let it drain about 10 minutes and 7.75 quarts was way overfilled, every time since then with a long drain 7.75 quarts is right on the money for refill.

FYI you have to be pretty far overfilled to hit the crank, you’d know if any damage occurred because you’d get a low oil pressure warning. The bubbles cause the pump to cavitate and lose pressure. If you never got a low oil pressure alert ~ don’t lose sleep over it. The pump is also very low in the sump now with the belt driven unit….would take alot of aerated oil to make this unit lose prime or cavitate.

Don’t those 5.0’s need to run at 7000rpm to make decent power? Perhaps a low detergent oil to minimize frothing and foaming. Sea Doo makes a good one ?

Dealer people do screw up. In my own experience the fluid levels on a new car or truck were often too low by half a container of ATF or oil as the prep person did not want to open a new container and have it half used.

I pay $80 to have the oil changed with my 3.5L engine and that is with an independent garage. The dealer charges a great deal more for everything and so unless it is something covered by the warranty I do not use them.

Had dealership change my oil, 2022 F150 5.0 ( Motorcraft 5W-30 semi syn), but the DIP stick is reading 1/4 - 1/2 inch higher past the second hole on the dipstick? Is this a problem or normal fill past the max fill on the reading? I read the manual and it say's MAY cause problems.. Don;t want to cause issue for Dealership mech but the bill was $128 for an oil change!!!

I measured my garage floor and perfectly horizontal with bubble square and waited 15+ mins to read it. *Just wondering as this is my new truck.
My guess is he put in 1 quart over what a 21-24 5.0 calls for. The pre 21 5.0s take 1 quart more. For $65ish you can change it yourself with full synthetic and get it done correctly. I don’t think 1 quart over will do any harm though. I wouldn’t worry about it.

WHAT pisses me off is I showed the service writer the photos and printed out page of the manual which clearly SHOWS it is officially over filled and he refuses to acknowledge I am correct and fix it. He says the dipstick looks perfect... Clearly over filled.

Pushing this up to management I fear will imbue me with risk should I come in with warranty issues needing to be fixed, or worse I make them take it back to fix and something worse happens...

Out of curiosity I'd take it to another dealer service department and ask them if they think it is filled correctly. Not mentioning anything about who did the work.

I would just use a suction pump and pull some out of the dipstick tube. Less messy the trying to pull the plug.

The 5.0s give you more power than its possible to imagine at idle so I don't know what you're referring to.

I did recently run into a couple of guys talking about their power boosts. I was able to snag a picture before they started slapping each others tailgates.

Joking aside, we all love our trucks except that one guy who started a thread about hating his. Must have leaked over from the Tundra forum. Have a great day!

I'm curious - for those in the know dealership-wise, when your particular dealership does an oil/filter change, when they refill with fresh oil, is it:

1. From 5 qt +1 qt. containers as we would for a DIY change in our driveway/garage.
2. From a 55 gal/210 liter drum metered for whatever capacity your particular engine requires.

It's been years now since I've had a Ford dealership change my oil. I quit going to my local dealer after they overfilled me around 1 qt. after 2 consecutive changes. I felt at the time they likely didn't allow enough drain time on my 2.7EB but I never thought to check on how they actually filled it with new oil (1 or 2 above).

So now I'm just curious. My new Chebbie was overfilled by about 1/2-2/3 qt. from Day 1 (as measured on the dipstick at purchase, as measured volume-wise when I did my 1st oil change). Silverado/Sierra forum folks claim when engine is factory-filled it's from a drum and very common to be overfilled 1/2 to 1 qt.
