What’s everyone’s thoughts? At 40,000 miles my powertrain warranty is almost up, and I’ve figured since I bought the truck back in ‘23 I’d supercharge it once factory powertrain warranty expires. I notice the stage 1R straight from Whipple has 665 lb ft of torque vs the 590 lb ft from the Ford Performance FP-700 which is a 75 lb ft increase. Is this just the tune or is Whipple giving you a different pulley?

Those with the FP-700 are you happy with it or do you wish you went straight to the source? One thing that makes me like the Ford one is just all the Ford decals for the engine bay looking clean and OEM. Looks more OEM but you are giving up 75 lb ft of torque. Wonder if you can buy the Ford package and then get the flash from Whipple later…

The 1R also includes the fuel injectors so I am not sure how much more power you can get with a different tune. From what I've read the injectors are installed under the supercharger, so if you think you will want the extra power thats something to consider.

Definitely happy with the FP kit, I doubt you would know the difference unless you were test driving 2 back to back. Its an absolute menace with the weakest tune of the pack. I do know the upgrade packages will still work, but I dont think the value vs gain is there. Counterpoint though, opening the hood to appreciate the OEM look isnt something I have done since install, and the cost difference between the kits as a whole would make the power gain worth it. Also the stock speed limiter really cramps my style, it kicks on in the middle of every pull.

You’d be giving up way more than just 75lb ft of torque! ??? It’s all in the tune. Ford Performance 700 tune is also limited to only up to 700hp and speed limiter of only 105mph. From what I’m seeing on this forum as well as a few F-150 Facebook pages is that FP700 Whipple buyers regret not just going straight through Whipple for their stage 1 3Yr/36k mile warranty kit (Which is what I did after doing my research ?). Because Whipple stage 1 tune delivers 650 TQ, 725 HP and Speed limiter 135 MPH. Most people with the FP700 are upset with the 105 Speed limiter because it restricts them on the track trying to get good 1/4 mile runs. They seem not to even care about the way Ford is “protecting the engine power train” by dropping torque and horsepower numbers with their tune. They’re pissed off loosing power after hitting 105 mph. From what I see in pricing as well, why spend $9,650 for a Ford Performance Stage 1 Whipple with those parameters when you can get way more power with a Stage 2 Kit directly from Whipple for ONLY ($9,699.99) $50 more! And like you said, your warranty is almost up anyways. It’s a no brainer.

I’m a little leery on the stage 2, I don’t plan to beat on it and I’d like the motor to last. Ford says the FP-700 stage 1 is tested to hit a minimum 100k miles. I feel comfortable with the stage 1 for 700ish horsepower as the stock 5.0 is comfortable there. Once you get above 700s you are rolling dice.

The 1R kit is basically the stage 2 minus the throttle body. I went with it for the additional overhead with the upgraded fuel injectors and knowing my propensity for not being satisfied. I do not regret my decision and it is a complete blast to drive. The Whipple tune is great and I currently don't feel the need to change it, but I would like to go back to using E-85. There is not a wrong answer with the Whipple/Ford Performance kit selection. I ordered mine from @beefcake and would recommend him if you chose the Whipple route. It shipped directly from Whipple once the system was built. Make sure you do a parts inventory when your kit arrives. I didn't and was balls deep when i made the discovery on Thanksgiving weekend and had to source bolts locally.

Ford is telling you this like THEY made the Whipple itself. All Ford did was send over a few of their engineers to Whipple and form a partnership together in order to produce a tune that Ford was “comfortable” with and then slapped on a “Ford Performance” plate on top of the Whipple Blower. ??? ANY Whipple can hit 100K if you give it a reputable tune, don’t abuse it and keep up with the maintenance schedule. These 5.0L Coyotes are more than capable of handling 700+ hp. It’s once you get around 800+ hp (being cheap trying to get by with stock powertrain components) is when you START to roll the dice because even then, with the correct powertrain upgrades this engine can easily handle up to 1200+ hp when you factor in a different boost setup like TT’s. But hey if you’re thrilled by losing all power at 105mph just to see a “Ford Performance” name plate on the Whipple Blower whenever you lift the hood of your truck, knock yourself out! That choice is yours and it’s your money. Spend it how you want. Just know that it’s gonna cost you even more money later on to get the Whipple stage 1 tune if you get tired of the 105mph speed limiter power loss.

Is there a reason you’re not consider Roush?

Also, twin turbos?

Lastly, I don’t understand the fear of abuse, how else do you eventually justify replacing the block with an Aluminator when the stock one quits?

I went straight to stage 2 on a new truck. I have almost 3000 miles with the whipple installed. Its really great. I have the raptor wheel with paddles installed and it makes driving the truck incredibly enjoyable without beating on it. 2/3-3/4 throttle into the 5000-5500 shift range is enough to make normal folks tingle. I’d go at least stage 1R so you have the option to easily increase power. Its mostly in the tune.

Retired and not looking. I am driving the wife crazy.
I can only speak to supercharger longevity. I had a 2010 CTS V. It was factory supercharged. I put 200,000 miles on it and was still kicking. I went 170 at about 175,000 miles. 556 hp, 552 lbs of torque if my memory is correct. I just don't know who manufactured GM's supercharger.

I went stage 1R this time vs my previous stage 2 setups and it has a smaller pulley compared to the stage 2.
I would recommend the stage 2 just to have the headroom for more upgrades later. There is usually a spring sale so you might wait a little to see.

FP/Whipple…. To chicken to do any more than that :) I tow a 3.8K lb. boat a couple of times a month. I don’t know if that matters much with nanny’s in place and such, but I didn’t want to find out the hard way. I pulled a very long (~1/2 mile) and steep (10%) hill on 360/2222/620 here in Austin with the truck and boat. The CAT temps barely hit 1400* all the way to the crest. Needless to say I was waiting for it to “pop” any second but she held together ? I bet I’ve climbed it 25+ times since then….
