I have changed mine but only to 85 or 90 as I recall.

fan 5 or higher disables/bypasses the BMS logic.
Curious if the fan 5 trick helps with ICE only trucks?

I've had 3 incidents of "battery saver mode" in 19 months. The truck was less than a year old for the first one, after sitting for 7 days. I've been reading the posts since, but have just been putting it on a charger when I know it's going to sit for more than a few days. I forget the details on the second event, was several months ago though. Had no problem until this week. This recent event was after sitting for just two days after using the truck several days last week. Short trips, sort of, yes. But a total of probably 50 miles and maybe two hours total driving. Not an unusual driving pattern for me. Out of curiosity, I checked and the battery voltage, was 11.4vdc. The Diehard charger I had showed "battery at 47%". It took a few hours to get to 74% and stayed there for several more hours. I went out to unplug for the night and the display showed 100%, I foget the voltage. I don't hold a lot of confidence in that chargers displayed intel, but it is what I had.
I called Ford, have an appointment for next week. I heard the same sort of BS from them that others have posted - they can see I only have driven the truck about 300 miles since December, which they said those short trips are not enough to keep the battery charged with all the electronic systems the truck has (well, if Ford hadn't used an undersized H6 or put in a shit defective battery at the factory, would we be having this discussion?).

They're gonna test the battery, we'll see what they find and do. If it tests bad or otherwise faulty, they will replace under 3/36 warranty. If they do, wooo hoooo.. another undersized H6 that may last another year or so. Cool.
I know I will need to get a non MotorCraft battery. When I do, it will likely be an H8 from Napa Auto Parts.

As always, I enjoy the interesting discussions.

I had an interesting exchange via text with the service manager at my dealer. I asked, via email, if changing the 12v battery either myself or by an indie shop voided any warranty. My dealer service manager stated that no warranty would be voided, but the BMS must be reset. He said that the only method that would reset the BMS was a computer plugged into the truck. I told him, via text, about the flash lights, etc. method. He said that he spoke with his veteran staff (his words, not mine) and they looked at him like he had three heads ,(again, his words, not mine). I texted him a reply that perhaps his staff should read page 513 of the 2023 F150 owner's manual that clearly states the BMS reset method of flash lights 5 time, etc. I have not received a reply in two days. Really, what are the Ford technicians being taught these days?

Nothing irritates them more than an informed customer too.
It's really sad, to be honest.
Why are you an adversary for reading the owners manual?
And how can doing so scoot you beyond them in product knowledge?

Everyone on this forum should appreciate the shared knowledge here, I know I do very much. Snakebitten is one of the worst offenders with sharing...

'Spect that everyone here understands RTFM. I learned the wisdom in that early on in my profession.

Ya know... It just depends on the dealer's philosophy. I've found the dealer I purchased from and now work with to be very receptive to a knowledgeable customer. Their view is that it speeds up the process of identifying what's wrong and fixing it. They've on a couple of occasions had something go wrong (for example they identified an exhaust leak and then in the repair a stud snapped off and they had to drill & retap) and they took the time to explain and get on with things. I've mentioned this dealer several times: Lithia Ford of Idaho Falls.

I think this is a new high score for battery SOC. Did the ole fan setting 5 trick on a recent road trip.

Which app is this? I really like it. Is it OBDLink? I'm looking for a good, full-featured app for my 2021 PowerBoost and this seems great. Thanks.

but the BMS must be reset.
I thought the whole point of charging through the BMS, was so it could recognize the added charge? In any event, the truck is supposed to recognize it overnight.

It has never even hinted at not starting but mine doesn't get driven far enough, or frequently enough, to keep from getting remote features shut downs on the regular and the deep sleep warning, on occasion.

I tried the fan speed 5 trick, for several weeks solid. No noticeable difference.

I've put it on a charger numerous times but always through the BMS. In fact, its on the charger now. Even if charging through the BMS, I should re-set it?

After getting an OTA a few weeks ago, I now get a "Charging System Service Soon" warning at each start up.

Rugedraw, said it was on top of 2 previously failed updates and would probably sort itself out.

I stopped in to talk to a service guy about it. He looked up the VIN, said no codes thrown and gave the old story that he could test the batt but it would probably pass so ...

I think the days of "simple" F150 trucks are long behind us. Regardless of how many seats are in the cab, or which drivetrain is underneath it.

Yes.. the days of 'simple' trucks is long over. Just to meet emissions standards and EPA regs and gas mileage goals takes real innovation and engineering. Just the transmission alone.. I'm still glad I'm getting a truck with 'slightly' less sensors and electronics and chips. I'm absolutely getting the extended warranty with Enhanced First Day Rental.. Just in case.
