Has anyone figured out why Ford decided to limit the SOC for the AGM?

I sorta understand why they've done it on the HV batt. As I understand it, life cycles for lithium batts count as complete discharge to complete recharge. Ford never lets that happen, one would assume to aide in longevity but LA chemistries and discharge / recharge parameters are different. Seems they've built in premature failure on them.

So they wouldn't have to replace it under warranty. There's no excuse for their shitty charging strat. The parts for the 'easy' solution arrive today. Hope to have something to present by the weekend.

My POV is that if you need a battery tender for any period less than 2-3 months, something is wrong. It seems many people (including me) with deep sleep/no start issues had an OEM battery "test fine", but I was skeptical and replaced it anyway with a quality aftermarket (Duralast Platinum) and haven't had a single issue since. Battery was $250.
It would be interesting to see what your "truck off" battery voltage reads with the new Duralast. Perhaps it's the Ford battery dragging down the charging circuitry and not the other way around.

If you look at the AMOUNT of current (amps) that the Ford battery management logic is providing for charging the 12V AGM's, it's very conservative and seems obviously to be avoiding a stronger SOC.

If you let the truck set a few days, or you intentionally disturb the truck multiple times, the SOC will drop so low that you get the much documented sleep mode. (and other symptoms of Ford protecting the AGM at that point)
Then we you start the truck, you will witness a charging current that makes sense. Like 20Amps at 14.Xvolts. Almost exactly what a smart charger would provide.

But unlike the smart charger, once the AGM gets to what Ford's SOC PID gets around 80%, it backs way off on charging current. There's no denying that Ford is intentionally leaving a lot of headroom on the table with the AGM.
There's a big thread regarding lots of testing and documenting the strategy in play. You can verify what is going on, but you can't verify why?

Final report: 12.67V across the battery posts with the vehicle off. Close to 85% using generator mode. Be nice to see what Rick gets under normal use with his Duralast Platinum.

Like Snake said, the generator mode will charge it up with minimal fuel usage, but don't try it in your garage due to exhaust fumes etc.

Took this pic after coming out of generator mode and driving away. Transmission temperature already normal and engine temp close to normal but not quite. Interesting.

12.3x is the eventual norm for the F150 strategy. It could easily be 12.7+

Dealer is replacing battery. How can I be sure they reset BMS? Does the battery need to be fully charged when installed? What if it sat on a shelf for a while, installed, then reset BMS?

lol! we had a great time. First time without the kids and we still did the lighthouse and historic district walk. Beach was awesome Sunday. Anastasia Island lowers your blood pressure so nicely. :)
