Maverick owners didn't brand their trucks as Mavericks. ?

Somehow I had completely displaced the existence of the Ford Maverick from my mind.

Wow, the US really did build some raunchy smaller cars in the 70's. (Former Vega and Gremlin owner here)

Yeah, for some strange reason the Maverick cult followers didn't get very upset when Ford badged their clever little Hybrid truck with the grail. ?

My older sister (70) and her husband purchased a brand new Maverick shortly after getting married. We grew up poor folks, so she was the first in the family to have an unused car. We all oooo'd & aaaaawwww'd over that machine.

We live in such a different world today. A set of premium tires and a brake job cost more than that car?

Oh, and just like Ford doesn't adorn my Powerboost with the word "Hybrid" anywhere on the vehicle, my Mach-E does have stang anywhere that I can see. ?
It's even listed legally as an SUV.??
I'm probably just a dinosaur, but to me it's more of a stationwagon.

Hey, dinosaurs deserve love too...! My leap into this brave new world of computers with wheels was from a '92 Suburban into a '21 F-150..... It's been a real education. I'm still learning about all of the things this rolling computer does for me and figuring out that it is never really "off" was a blinding flash of the obvious... :)

g00berment considers it a "SUV" if that's worth anything. It's really a CUV which makes more sense to Americans. Basically a 5 door wagon with higher ground clearance (I appreciate not having to worry about the splitter). That 6klb GVWR helps too - oink oink.

I would never have believed it could masque it's girth the way it does until I experienced it myself.
Or put another way, I would have just politely, and quietly thought to myself, that whoever was making such a claim just doesn't know how a good handling car feels when you are tossing it around.

I'm not saying it tosses like my 2300lb Mazdarati :) or the Porsche 987. But it defies what my brain predicts. Ford did their homework with the GTPE suspension setup, other than the OEM EV tires. Which lasted all of about 500 miles on mine. ?

THAT was some low hanging fruit indeed. Best flat tire I have ever experienced.

That's why I was asking about the sway bars thing. In my observation this truck handles just fine... Course I really don't push it, but I do alot of highway miles... My OEM tires lasted maybe 30,000+ miles. Was a bit surprised at that. I always take the stock tires and wheels on a purchase, then replace them with what I really want...

Yeah, I didn't have high hopes for the 245s as I'd had them on my cobra stock which was ~35% lighter and they were unimpressive. Turns out when you put enough mass into a tire to shove them down into the pavement it can pull 1g on the skidpad. Low CG helps too. While I haven't seen any reports from someone pulling the typical mustang 180 curb slapping maneuver, I assume if it gets away it won't be pretty. That said, the powertrain / vehicle dynamics programming has never shaken my confidence in making it do precisely what I want it to.

I think their testing paid off

Couldn't catch a clear view of whatever mode they had it in, just a blurry couple frames of this. What's the cheat code?

Whether someone feels they need or don't need to add a rear anti-sway bar to their Gen14 F150, I feel confident that adding one wouldn't be something that would be vague.
You wouldn't have to toss it ? or even drive aggressively to experience the additional chassis prowess.

Admittedly the use of the word prowess is my opinion.

I'm rarely asked, but the forum handle literally has nothing to do with reptiles. ?

Long story. Boring for sure. But it actually is fantasy football related so long ago historically that the internet didn't exist yet. Nor cell phones.

Yeah. I'm way older than that.

Getting back to the topic of this thread, battery issues. First I’m grateful for all the information I have collected here and I don’t even have my powerboost yet, its scheduled for the end of this month. My question to all of you is this, with all the battery issues why isn’t a battery kill switch discussed more. Wouldn’t it solve the problem of the battery draining when not in use as well as an anti theft device? Seems like a simple answer to a novice like me but I’d really appreciate opinions and facts from those of you who have more experience. Thanks !

For storage, like airports, or not going to be driving for weeks, Probably not a bad idea. Obviously not going to get any updates, and you'll have to use the emergency key to get it, But no reason the truck shouldn't start when reconnected.

As far as a Powerboost goes, You would also have to disconnect the aux battery too.

Upgraded to Larger H7

Hello everyone. I see there's lots to catch up on here, as I haven't been on here in a year. Lots of good reading. I hope this is a thread for this type of starter battery.
Well, after 2-1/2 years tolerating less than stellar H6,battery performance on my 21 2.7L ICE, it left me stranded at work this week with a dead battery, even after 70 minutes a day round trip commuting.

Yesterday I put in an H7 Platinum AGM, with surprising results! First of all, I used a variable power supply to charge it right from the store for 30 minutes, but it was apparent the battery was full. Then I did a BMS Reset via the high beam/brake sequence before ever cranking the battery. I did NOT change the upgraded battery size in Forscan yet, as I wanted to observe the comparison in charging for a couple of days with the truck thinking it was the same H6 size.

Up until changing the battery, I could never achieve more than 78-82% SOC on my daily commutes. Here's what I observed after the first commute to work today......

After installation BMS reset: 93% SOC.
Start commute 7 hrs later : 97% SOC.
12 minutes into commute: 98% SOC.
34 minutes into commute: 99% SOC.

I never experienced this sort of battery & charging performance, even when truck was new. (36k miles on it now). With the same voltage being presented to the battery, after the same minutes into my commute, battery draw/absorption seems to be double, at various stages of tapering off during the 35 minute commute.

The SOC shown on the new battery should be innacurately high for this larger battery (until I go in and update the battery size address). With the 70 Ah H6, the 80% SOC my battery metered into it via the bi-directional sensor (shunt) on the battery post, represented 56 Ah in the battery. Now if the new larger H7 battery is say 82 Ah capacity, the same 80% SOC would still mean 56 Ah is contained in the battery, but in actuality the larger battery is only holding 68% of it's 82 Ah capacity, not 80% displayed on Forscan. That's why it's important to select the new larger H7 or H8 in the Forscan address.
I suppose if the new battery reaches 100% while driving, and the computer thinks the battery has a full 70 Ah in it, it may throttle back and not give the additional 12 Ah to total 82 Ah that the new H7 will hold.

Gosh, I missed this forum!

First commute home with new Duralast Platinum H7 (Advance Auto)

After a 12-hour shift, battery only dropped (or recalibrated) 2% from 99% SOC to 97%. Previously would come out to 77% with original H6.

This Forscan screenshot is cruising 10 minutes into 35 minute commute. Using headlights and some fan load to maintain in "Slow Regen" charge mode.

...... And this one Coasting with 0% TPS (foot off pedal). This Regen mode of charging is best charging during drive. Voltage to battery spikes as much as 2 volts, causing brief increase in charge current. Once foot off pedal and speed falls below 15 mph, voltage commanded from alternator DROPS to below battery voltage. This usually results in Negative current, drawing FROM battery until foot on pedal ever so slightly or more (>0% TPS). This is stupid charging, as you will see in 3rd pic...
