  1. Battery tender

I realize this post is a year old, but someone else could use it..... If using Forscan light on your phone, just put a "battery age" PID on your dashboard. It will increment on the daily anniversary hour from when you reset it. Pic below shows the day I reset mine....
  2. Factory battery ongoing issues

Day 2 using alternator in "dumb mode" but it was even cooler this morning (48F). So charging voltage was a little higher than yesterday but again rock steady the entire 35 minutes at 14.25V. Started truck at 99% and after few minutes in, was charging with 1 amp or just under (teetering 1 to 0...
  3. Very basic locking differential question

You also can select that mode, but not be in it until dropping low enough in speed for it to engage. I think the max speed is around 25 mph before it automatically disengages. It will engage in and out as driving speed permits, but it's basically a slow-speed feature...
  4. Factory battery ongoing issues

Now that I switched to a 12-hour dept. at work last year, I get to see two resting-period calibration events each day with the truck's battery. A 10-hour rest period and a 12-hour rest period. Plenty of time for the required 7 approximate hours for resting voltage to stabilize...
  5. New battery; H7 or H8?

Outdoor temperature can affect the charging voltage by a volt, easily. Maybe more. Ventura is probably more familiar with temperature compensation values. I've been running my 2.7L ICE alternator in "dumb-mode" with a consistent voltage, until SOC hits 102%. Late day yesterday alternator charged...
  6. Factory battery ongoing issues

Just a simple alternator here. Well, not so simple., but a 3-phase alternator nontheless. But now without the charging algorithm swinging voltages up and down to tailor engine loading for coasting, climbing, accelerating, idling, and all that BS, it now holds a steady voltage at Any rpm, until...
  7. Factory battery ongoing issues

...... To get charge mode to switch at 102%, I entered 69 Hex, for value of 105%. Below is my cheat-sheet spreadsheet........
  8. Factory battery ongoing issues

If yours is anything like my 2.7L ICE, yours should be leaving Conventional mode 3% prior to reaching your target SOC. I would bump it up close to 100. I woulda done just what I did now, but my OEM H6 just wouldn't absorb current like this Duralast Platinum does..... Or any battery should...
  9. Factory battery ongoing issues

Ok, I've finally got this charging system working the way I want/need it to. And with the new and bigger H7 battery, it's like night and day. I bumped up the Target SOC to 105%, so like when I was at 80%, Conventional charge mode (dumb mode) exited for the regen modes 3% under target...
  10. Factory battery ongoing issues

Oh yes, It's very capable, but it's programmed to lower it's output voltage when in the last charge mode (Fast Regen), and stopped, or idling, or foot off pedal & coasting below 15 mph.
  11. Factory battery ongoing issues

Oh, I disabled that auto stop/start 15 months ago. That draw is with engine ON! At stops & in Fast Regen mode (above 78% SOC when Target at 80), alternator drops voltage to low 12's, well below battery voltage. This causes a brief "pulling down" of battery voltage to run the vehicle until the 2...
  12. Factory battery ongoing issues

No, I used my boat-winch receptacle under the rear bumper (4-ga., 175 amp Anderson). My key fob doesn't have that sort of capability on this 2.7L ICE. And yes, I'm careful not to Wake it up or it immediately goes into a -15 amp draw before starting. I used to enjoy using the...
  13. Factory battery ongoing issues

Thanks Bill. Like I mentioned, I don't want to charge fast, I just want to make the most of sometimes short errands and not trickle at 1 amp. 200 amps at my disposal and don't charge as well as a battery tender sometimes does. More importantly, I want to stop the battery discharging 10-30...
  14. Factory battery ongoing issues

Thought for sure this was a PWM alternator. Tried to get to the 3-pin connector the other day but it's underneath it. Could only see a single small gauge conductor entering alternator from the side. Could this be the comm wire? I was going to get underneath and remove air dam so could get to the...
  15. Factory battery ongoing issues

Glad you found it. Maybe someone can help "me" find something. Which module, connector & wire color does the "Gencom" signal use, going to the alternator? I think it should be the center wire of the alternator's 3-wire connector, possibly an "RC" signal on the alternator...
  16. Factory battery ongoing issues

Ambient outside air temp is bottom of the passenger side mirror. Unless they're using the BMS shunt processor on the negative battery post. More indicative of battery temp. Use a hair dryer or heat gun to determine which one lowers charge voltage.
  17. 12V Battery

I realize this is an old post, but still good reading. I've always liked the coincidence that the specific gravity of flooded electroyte at 1.265 corresponds to voltage of 12.65 (six cells).
  18. Factory battery ongoing issues

........ Also I forgot a post I made determining that increasing "Target SOC" to a very high number, kept the truck's charge mode in the initial recovery mode of "conventional". I may go back to this in order to avoid that 3rd and last "Fast Regen" charge mode. Then I wouldn't have to wear out...
  19. Factory battery ongoing issues

....... "Around 13.1 volts is what Ford needs my battery to be able to maintain over 8 hours while resting, in order to assign an SOC of 100% after it's nightly calibration, at least with the 2021 2.7L ICE"...... Scott, I found a 15-month old post I made, back when I was holding the...
  20. Factory battery ongoing issues

Finally got around to this 3 days after putting the new battery into service. After getting home from an errand with the wife at 9pm (Rita's), battery had 101% SOC. It displayed it's max 100% when shutting down, but it took 2 amps for enough minutes (21) to rack up another 1%. 1 hour after...
