I'm planning to buy an updated laptop to do this on my stuck truck (only have an old Win 8 laptop and a MacBook). Should I be looking at getting a laptop with Win 11 Home or Pro for FDRS? Thanks!

In addition to @Snakebitten suggestions, if you can still find a laptop with an ethernet port on it , it can be handy if you don't have good wifi we're you'll be doing the updates. I ran a 100' ethernet cable from my house to the garage and it made downloading the updates from Ford severs very fast.

Even if you have a laptop without ethernet you could always buy an adapter. I bought this for mine with USB C.

Happy easter everybody - so I took the plunge on a Mongoose, FDRS license etc. Spent a good chunk of yesterday getting everything available applied. At this point down to an IPC update that won't apply via USB.

As for the IPC update - USB stick gets created fine, then I insert and the Sync display says a couple status messages about Indexing the drive , etc. But then it just sits. I've left the truck running in my driveway for over an hour but no activity on USB, no error messages, no status messages. Finally gave up and the update failed.

I've also not seen yet an update for TCU, APIM or Gateway. Wondering if I might be stuck per this TSB - and have to follow these reset procedures?

Attached is my sync version screen grab as well the IPC update that is not applying. Would love any pointers from the group. VIN is 1FTFW1ED2MFB35283. 2021 Platinum Powerboost 3.5

Thanks -- Dave

I just did my IPC yesterday. It errored out with USB stick but worked through the can bus. But it did take forever( about 5 hours).

Thanks - saw that option but with family commitments today not in the cards to kick that off. Anyone know if after IPC updates should I expect them to see APIM/TCU or whatever is left. My mission here is really to get BlueCruise enabled.

This is correct. You can select no when it asks of installed successfully. Let it install via CanBus.

No other updates will show until teh IPC is done. They are sequential so after its installed more updates will be released

Excellent. Will give this a try over the canbus.

Jesse, Snake or anybody,
Without having to read all 9,210 posts to formulate a readers digest version of the steps involved, has anybody compiled a sequence for updating all modules? In other words, can the smaller/faster modules be updated first then move on to the APIM, TCU, IPC, and the other problem children that are more critical? Recently there seems to be more need for the Can-bus method which adds another level of difficulty to the mix. I'm considering trying this next weekend but the whole process seems intimidating. It would be great if there were a step by step document with all of the known tips and tricks like what day to start the FDRS subscription, components for the can-bus connection, module update sequence, what to watch for and what to expect. There is just so much information in this thread that I find it impossible to disseminate enough information to proceed with confidence and there must be others who feel the same way. This would be a great sticky thread with which could be updated as new ideas and challenges develop. I considered starting this document but quickly decided I'm not qualified to make the determination of what is right, wrong or pertinent. What do you recommend? My VIN is 1FTFW1EDXMFB20692.

Thank You

@dzacco the short answer is no. Updates must be applied in order. Sometimes there are two or three to choose from, but there will be a dozen more that will not show up until those are done. you basically have to follow the FDRS roadmap.

Correct.

There is not an order. Typically the thought is to get longer updates like the iPMA out of the way. It takes 3 hours. Outside of that the order is typically do the Gateway , APIM, TCU. You do those and then potentially see another set of updates for the same modules. You just go until you are done.

The IPC can take 5-6 hours if the USB doesnt work.

I suggest getting ready to spend a weekend on it with potential issues arising. It can go very smoothly and lucky for you there are a lot of people that can answer your questions. Im not much needed anymore. These guys can handle about anything.
