What do you mean by fully format? My usb came with exfat as a defalt. I just unclicked quick format.

That is a full format, by unclicking the quick format option. It will take a little bit, but help ensure you don’t have any bad partitions or issues with the drive.
If you still have issues, I would recommend a different usb drive. Sometimes some of these drives have issues for no reason but trying a different brand seems to make the truck happy

Volume label “SAMDATA” is too long. Reformat the drive (Quick Format is fine) and rename it something shorter—four characters at most. Or leave volume label blank. That’s what I do.

The last time i renamed the usb I named it ford and quick formatted cg. Since I’m fully formatting it now should I cancel and rename it or let if fully format then rename it ford

Something didn’t take because ”SAMDATA” looks like a default name from the factory. Try leaving the volume label blank when you do a quick format and make sure there’s no name in the volume label before attempting to use it with FDRS.

@Bills916 Also, the USB update can take 5-15 minutes with the truck running before it kicks off, so keep that in mind. If you see USB indexing when you pop it in but the update doesn't start right away, then wait a bit.

Name needs to be Ford or SYnc. Long names do not work well

No need to wait. You can abort the long format and go right to quick. Name it anything you want, just keep it to four characters.

I did the quick format before on another usb and I named it ford and after I plugged the usb in and turned on the truck for 20 minutes it never registered. When I clicked yes and turned off truck it registered it but everything on my laptop failed

Try a different USB and start from scratch. Sounds like your truck doesn’t like the one you’re using. There are performance differences among different brands. I’ve had good luck with the Sandiscs that work with USB A and USB C.

What Sync version are you on? That could also be a problem since you have a 2021.

Did you see any specific USB error code on the touchscreen when it failed?
