ECU module programming guide using FDRS

So trying to do an APIM upgrade and running into an issue.

Loaded the uSB to the computer and it copied all the files.
FDRS said to turn ignition ON, Engine On. I did.
FDRS said to insert USB drive into the vehicle USB slot and I should see a message about it no removing it.

Well I inserted the USB drive in the slot in the center console by the wireless charging mat. When I did I got a message that said “Charge Only USB device”.

It’s been inserted for about 30 minutes and I can tell it’s not reading it because the flashy lights on my usb stick are off.

Any ideas here?

Same thing happened with the GWA update on a different USB drive but it was only 1MB so I did it over CAN.

Try reformat USB and retry or use a different usb stick. Message sounds like the truck is not recognizing the usb as a storage device.

Double check the drive format: exFAT only and if you named the drive, make sure it is 8 or fewer alphanumeric characters, no spaces. See post #2.

FDRS is not my area of expertise. I may be on here asking questions myself tomorrow when I update my own truck. Lol

If its saying charge only device its not set up correctly or that particular USB drive isnt meshing with the system. I use sandisk drives the usb c without fail

Tried a few different sticks now, first one was under 8 characters others are simply “FDRS”.

Is there another way besides USB?
I recall @Jesse-Infotainment mentionkng my existing APIM files were likely corrupted based on my symptoms so not sure if that is a factor here.

Try reformatting the drive, exFAT, and don’t name it. Use default settings when you reformat. Quick format is fine.

APIM is USB only. If it were canbus its 6GB that would take three weeks at can bus speeds.
