Ford has a habit of releasing crap updates. This BCM and the IPC and there are others.. The BCM is a dangerous module. If it fails there is no fail safe ignition mode. If it dies it dies. There is no fixing it. I have a BCM i bricked. I to this day cant fix it. I try every so often but it laughs at me.

BCM is a high stakes module. I had a guy that bricked his ABS and truck wouldnt start. I pulled that one out but the BCM will not happen. Reason being is no ignition. No ignition no programming.

I'm an adult, but I listen to the experts. After the shit I've been through with my truck I'm not about to load something that is borked.
From what @Jesse-Infotainment tells me, the BCM update is supposed to be a fix for the unintended tailgate release issue some owners have had. So, it’s a limited update that probably isn’t worth the risk.

Yeah, That is another reason to not be so worried about it. I forgot to mention that. Its a really small update that makes the tailgate release align with the late build 22. I believe it makes it twice in 3 seconds

Jesse- I did the BCM update on my truck without issue. You have my VIN, if you want to review the software versions.
My truck doesn’t have BlueCruise or 360.
Just a 5.0l XLT 302a package with 8” cluster.

Oops.... I also ran the BCM update without any (perceivable) issues. I will tell you that it results in the following message, and tailgate opening now requires a "double tap" to open (on dash, key fob, and handle).

How does Ford address a possible electrical short causing a latch to release? Make you short it twice. ?

I'm sharing my experience with the BCM because I was a lucky person today...
(@Jesse-Infotainment got a little irritated with me today because of my cavalier attitude about how I thought the modules are hard to actual hard brick. I was bragging about how the update didn't brick mine and that I wasn't really worried!)

In my case, the update portion went fine but it never woke the vehicle and locked up my adapter. I couldn't complete the Module config portion until I killed FRDS, unplugged the adapter, and started over. Then ran the BCM update again which completed the config that time.

After the first attempt, it didn't wake the truck back up which scared the $*%$ out of me, because I've had failed BCM updates before and the whole truck is dead like the battery is disconnected and it's scary. Luckily UCDS could still talk to the module to try again.

I'm relieved for you Tonesto. :)

Good Ole Jesse has to put up with all kinds.
I'm just happy to see we haven't worn him out.

Well, add me to the "bricked due to BCM update" club. F*ck. I'm gonna have to bribe the dealer to get me on the schedule because I leave for a trip next week and need my truck. Ugh. Other updates using FDRS went flawlessly. This really sucks. Yes, I know it was my conscious choice to attempt updating things before my trip, but Ford shouldn't put stuff out that does this to the vehicles. I have very little faith in Ford's quality or its software/technology abilities after a few other things I've faced with this truck. Ugh.
Not sure if it’s a coincidence or not, but two trucks have now bricked. Both were Powerboosts.

I'm sticking with @Jesse-Infotainment 's advice at this point. As of July 1st my truck was fully up to date and working perfectly, like it never did since new. I couldn't be happier.

Ford has tried to push old OTA's to my truck. As Jesse has said turn off your updates!

I know this BCM update is waiting for my truck as well! But why install it unless you're having issues. We all know how screwed up Ford is. If there's no advantage to update, why?

Bummer!

I'm so disappointed seeing this happen to any of us with FDRS.

Other than the nano-CCM incompatibility that wasn't catastrophic, this is the first unrecoverable uhoh for those that have taken OTA issues into their own hands.

I really hope this update gets pulled quickly. It would be unfortunate for there to be an "official" argument against what we are doing. Although I would argue that the dealership will experience the same result, so it wouldn't be a valid stance.

I just checked FDRS and the only update I'm showing available is a ABS module. Did the BCM not get kicked out for my Platinum or was it already removed from FDRS?

If you update the ABS, the BCM should show up.

Are you all using the battery charger power supply mode when doing the updates? I remember when I did the latest BCM update it did several truck resets in a row that seemed like big power draws which scared the shit out of me! Afterwards I thought… I’m glad I had the battery charger to Power Supply mode when it happened.
