2025 XLT, first kinda cold day (-4C) and I get going about 60km/h and notice a small vibration, or humming noise.

honestly felt like my tires got replaced with like some more rugged off road tires.

then, in an instant, the noise and vibration stops, and did not come back.
So now I’m thinking maybe a motor was trying to push something, like active air dam or my front grill flaps.

there was frost, but no ice. Is this a common thing people have noticed?

I've read on here that people have discovered that on colder days, the IWEs will engage for the first couple miles of your drive. That could be one possibility.

Interesting. Is this a problem? That’s not even something I thought I had. Does that not mean the 4wd would be engaged then?

Apparently it's an automatic thing to exercise the hubs or warm them up or something. 4wd won't be engaged as the transfer case will remain unlocked.

XLT has them, only TOD 4A trucks don’t have them…but to add to the confusion Raptor, Raptor R, and Tremor have them too even though they have 4A.

Yeh, I guess I was thinking about the vacuum-acuated IWE's.

active air dam doesn’t deploy until 50 mph so it probably wasn’t that at 60 km/h

I have a 2023 F150 that did it the first winter I had it. They did the latest TSB on it that Ford offered picked it up. Did the same thing brought it back, They called Ford motor company apparently they were gonna be coming up with some new software updates or new IWE’s I stopped back in July of this year. There was nothing available yet if your truck has the same issue? I’m guessing it’s not resolved yet which I will be exploring this option this December I live in Minnesota so I’m sure I will experience it again. We’ll see what happens

Dang it, I was hoping Ford pushed an update out that fixed this issue before this winter. I guess when the cold arrives I will see if it shows up again.

If you stop at the dealer and get any information, please pass it on. I’m sure I’ll experience it our first cold snap below 32° in Minnesota here.

I will definitely keep you posted if I figure anything out. I took it to my local dealer the last time it made the noise just to wait around 2 hours for the service writer to let me know it wasn't possible for the iwe on a 24 xlt to make that noise as I showed him the TSB from Ford that applied to my VIN, dealer is a joke.

I had to drop it off there leave it there overnight. Have them drive it the next morning in the winter they said the duplicated the noise. You may have to do that but I’m sure I’ll experience something this winter. If I get something figured out I’ll definitely post something because I only have 12,000 miles on my truck. It’s a 2023. I bought it in 2024 and basically it made it the first winter I had. I’m watching this close because of they can’t get it fixed in a year. There’s a chance I might go down the lemon road

If it is the IWE grinding/humming noise in the cold, my truck had that the first winter.

Last winter I don't think it happened once for me. We didn't have a super cold winter but there were a few serious cold snaps and yet nothing.

I wonder if there was an OTA that may have addressed it. Guess we'll find out in the next few months.

FYI, you can test it by hitting 4H as soon as you hear the hum/rumble. If it immediately stops, you know that's the issue.

Problem I had with the dealer was they need to replicate it to do that TSB. For me it has been completely random when it occurs.

I still believe they’re working on it. I’ll know this winter here coming up. I live in Minnesota so I should experience the next 4 to 6 weeks if it still does it. I checked with the dealer in July, there were no current updates there again if anybody hears something. Please pass it on my truck did a new right out the gate so I believe there is an issue with the electronic IWE’s. My truck had the latest TSB done and it still did it. They replaced the electronic IWE’s and clean the splines TSB 242189
