The manual suggest that you’ll be fine to leave the charger on all the time. For reference, I have a 14 year old optima yellow top battery and charger that I leave on all the time. It’s still reporting 100%.

They make this without amp setting. It will do what it needs to do to charge the battery, up to 5amps. I never cared about charge rate until I got several hundred ah of lithium batteries. Now I’m disappointed with my noco10. All you need to do is make sure it’s set to AGM and it’ll take care of the rest.
greetings to a fellow Idahoan.

I love my NOCO 10...but my battery is only 2 yrs old, Autozone Platinum H7, Your battery is actually 14 years old. Wow...that's a lot of trust in old equipment!

Well, the yellow top is in a 57 Chevy, making it one of the newest parts of the vehicle. It also doesn’t have to run a bunch of computers and such. The biggest draw is probably the 8 track player. 😂

My stock Ford battery made it 38 months before it gave me the “going to sleep” message. I even threw it on the charger every 3-4 months trying to keep it healthy. I should swap it out before the fall turns to winter.

is 5amp a safe current setting for trickle charging on our F150s?

I have a NOCO 10 that is my primary maintainer; however last time I got the low battery message I used the NOCO 5 that I use for mowers and it worked fine. If the battery is very low it will take more time but it raised my charge overnight to full charge,

Finally got the Genius 5 installed yesterday. Decided to mount next to the 12V battery and routed the extension cord through the front grille. So there’s no way to set the amperage? Genius 5 only charges at 5amp?

Cool way to mount it!

the noco5 uses a 8 step charge process. It will use what amps and volts it needs to complete the steps to keep the battery in the best health possible. Fixed or flat rate float chargers are sorta old school at this point. I know the noco10 can act as a power supply, but that’s a different story.

I use a Oko one amp. The module itself plugged into the outlet. All I have is a cord running from the battery to behind the grill.

Is it safe to connect the Genius 5 to the truck all the time when not driving?

I noticed the charging LED lights on my Genius 5 were off, the only LED indicator that’s lit is the AGM 12V indicator. But when I reconnect the powercord to the charger again, then it’d go through the charging process ( flashing red, then yellow, and then green). But the next time when i opened the hood and all indicators were off again. When the battery is fully optimized, do all the charging status lights turn off?

On my Noco 2D, Noco 5, and Noco 10 the lights get to a pulsing green and then when that last phase finishes it turns and stays solid green. Maybe Noco changed the status LEDs recently (my units are about 2 years old)?

If the truck has a parasitic draw problem the battery tender is not going to be able to keep up with the rate of discharge. With my 2022 F-150 the parasitic draw would full drain the H7 battery overnight and so it would have a 0% SOC in the morning when I tried to start the engine.

A low SOC will destroy a starter type battery and I had to replace the one in my truck 3 times in 3 years. I was using a battery tender every night but it was not nearly enough. I would have needed to remove the battery cable each day and attach it when I wanted to drive the truck.

In my 59 years of driving it has only been the Ford BMS that has given me grief.

That's because only Fords have battery issues. Common knowledge.

Unless you visit the Jeep forums. With the 2nd "motorcycle" battery buried under the fender, they make Ford 's battery problems seem minor.

well it's been good and consistent so far. i left it plugged in all the time. once a while i powercycled the Noco just to monitor the status lights in action. it's pretty consistent, whenever i opened the hood, it was flashing green slowly, meaning the battery is at an optimized level, however, i've never seen it at solid green (standby mode). after i powered up the Noco, the status lights went from flashing red to amber back to green. i have to remind my wife everyday make sure to unplug the Noco in case she needs to drive the truck, think i'm starting to get on her nerves LOL

6 vehicles (and 1 UTV) all on a Noco 2D. All batteries at least 2 yrs old (some much older). No issues whatsoever with any of the Ford batteries (4) or other brands (the other 3, which includes the UTV). Multiple issues with Ford's batteries on a vehicle I no longer have where I didn't go the Noco 2D (or similar) route.

Bottom line, I'm sold on the Noco 2D solution.
