So it's not the 11,000 lbs that makes you uncomfortable? ??

Sorry, couldn't resist.

I'm assuming you have some miles on the truck, but no bolt has yet sheared?
So if you think you might feel a little more confident with brand new bolts, just swap them out. They aren't expensive and you would at least be starting back at mile zero with fresh bolts.

If you shear one removing it, you'll get fresh axles/hubs/bolts for a real mile zero.

The 11,000 load behind the truck isn't carried by that bolt. It's the axle itself that either is or isn't rated to pull that load.
The truck is rated for 14,000 lbs towing (as equipped) which is why I purchased it, as well as why I got the MAX Towing package.
Geez, I wish I could afford a bigger truck. :)

I don't feel comfortable pulling my 11,000 pound travel trailer ....
I went through a brief period of similar trepidation about using my rig (and bought a pair of the Ford bolts to carry), but @Snakebitten and others helped me see the light of my silliness.

I've continued to travel with my RV whenever I want without regard to axle-bolt worries, still haven't had a 'peep' (knock-on-wood) out of my OE bolts. I do pop the caps and eyeball them regularly.

IF one breaks while towing I'll just keep truckin' along to finish my trip and let my local dealer 'deal' with it when I get home. Seems many go for many miles undetected and it's clear that the wheel isn't gonna fall-off.

Could be wrong but I honestly don't think that towing has any 'bearing' ( ;) ) on the matter.

Bottom line - I'm not letting this issue affect how I use the truck I love driving. (y)

YMMV, no worries! :)

Yes it is. (rated to tow a LOT)
It definitely can pull it.
I was just considering the use of the word "comfortable", and threw a little jest at it. Didn't intend to offend.

And I was being sincere about legitimate options regarding the un-sheared bolt. :)

Thanks everyone for the replies, I really appreciate it.
I am trying to take all this info into account, and make the right decision, with regard to the safety of me and my family in mind.
Thanks again,

Fair enuf, very understandable, and IMO appropriate priorities.

Perhaps worth noting that in all the hundreds of the multiple-forum threads, posts, and anecdotes I follow on this topic, I don't recall a single instance of bolt-breakage leading to anything remotely jeopardizing human safety (vehicle occupants or 'bystanders') or property (other than the truck itself). Inconvenience, yes, but jeopardy to human safety, no.

Just for your consideration, understanding you gotta (and should) go with what lets you be comfortable, but it seems a pity to have this impose a 'lockdown' on family camping fun.

I just traded my tacoma for a 23 lariat 3.5L and they told me about the axle recall while I was signing papers. On my way home there's a squealing sound from the rear. Which i didn't hear on my test drive. Bring it in and the axle bolt is broken. 37k miles. They took it in and said they had parts. Later they said the kit was missing something and sent me home with the truck on April 23rd. I tried calling my service department today to ask about the update and didn't get a call back yet. I'll keep this updated in case anyone is interested.

UPDATE! They're ordering the updated parts right now and I'm scheduled for an appointment on Monday at 930!
