In April I was proactive and replaced the engine compartment battery with an X2. In the last couple weeks my PB has been giving me a message to turn off ignition (already off) to save the battery. Also this morning it would not start, totally dead. I put my battery charger on it and it fired right up. I think it's the battery under the backseat but am not sure. When I called the local Ford dealer the schematic shows two aux. batteries. I only found one. Is there two and could the aux. battery be my problem?

Can't say for sure if that's the problem, but my 2023 Powerboost only has a single auxillary battery

There's only a single aux batt. Could be bad -- so long as the truck isn't driving, you could disconnect the aux batt overnight to see if the issue persists. Truck fired up because it's started by the traction motor / HVB. The aux batt isn't involved in that process.

Has anyone replaced this aux battery yet? What do you replace it with? I’ve seen this question asked but not answered. I’m at 3 years on both of my batteries and know it’ll be soon.

@DarrenP Just curious, did you reset your BMS (Battery Management System) after the battery change? You should after a battery change. On most newer Ford's it's pretty easy. If I remember right it goes like this:
1. turn on (not start) and note where the battery symbol is
2. flash the brights 5 times followed by tapping the brakes 3 times
3. turn off then back on and the battery symbol should flash signaling the BMS is reset

I think that's it. Doing this can get rid of many module gremlins.

Thanks for the information. I did reset the BMS when I changed out the engine compartment battery. When I changed out the aux. battery I also reset the BMS even though I didn't get the battery icon on the dashboard like I did when I changed out the engine compartment battery.

I've now replaced both batteries and am still having the same issue. I also disconnected the engine battery and charged it for an hour. I've made an appt. with the local Ford dealer since it's under warranty.

i just replaced my auxiliary battery today with an OEM replacement from the dealer. $75.
i reset my BMS and I'm still getting the same warning on the screen, Also, many little features like approach lighting and radio and interior lights shut off immediately after turning off vehicle.
i tested the 12V engine battery, and it's showing still good.
... I'm perplexed... i hate technology when it doesn't work, lol

I replaced it with a 14 amp power battery from O’Reillys. It’s an American made battery.

I’m looking for a like as well. I just ordered this battery: https://a.co/d/4vRhYlQ
And can confirm it fits the spot after trimming the plastic tabs but the terminal has plastic on the battery that interferes with the Ford’s terminal hookup. You might be able to trim the battery but it wasn’t just a thin tab on this one. Additionally it was a bolt and nut not a threaded terminal like the oem…

This thread is why about 4 months after purchasing the Powerboost I started regretting my decision. It's just one more thing to go wrong.

Now after 18 months of owernship, I can see the hybrid function does me no good anyways.

I found the battery that works: https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/...p-post-battery-group-size-btx14ah/ssbn/etx15#

i did trim some of the plastic off the battery so the ford attachment points would fit and was able to reuse the ford bolts as well. Almost twice the Ah so hoping that helps.
And while I wish the electric gave us an option for 25 miles of electric range, I still love the hybrid. I like the extra juice when I punch it in sport mode, creeping up to my deer blind, and mostly using the 7.2 power in the back. Being able to run my welder or a refrigerator when I’m camping is primo.

Um, what? The aux batt has precisely fuckall to do with the hybrid function. It's a transient buffer, nothing more

Not that battery in particular. Battery issues of any kind just reminds that it has a battery that WILL malfunction and/or fail.

Resale is much less on Powerboosts also. Why is that? LOL. See. It precisely part of the fuckall equation. You're welcome.

Most folks who own Powerboosts want to be PROUD of them. Tell the good. Pretend there is no bad. lol. I'm realistic.
