The more moving parts something has, then more stuff that can break.

N/A 5.0 V8 all day

Any news from LHoffmanjr22?
It’s big because I stink at this stuff lol
I think he had the 3.5 long block replaced by ford. Pretty sure the other guy you posted with the 5.0 placed an order for a 2024 of the same spec as his original truck to replace and Ford bought his 2021 back. Lead times for any repairs on ANYTHING right now is insane. Ford can’t even give us an ETA for parts for the axle wire harness chafe recall. Hopefully both those mishaps have/had happy endings. My point here was you can cherry pick engine failures from anywhere.

If I had common sense I’d choose a 3.5 for the power, but I had to chose the 5.0 because who knows when they’ll stop making V-8’s (that days coming and we all know it boys, look at the tundra..)

I’m proud to say that currently as a Canadian, every single vehicle I own has an American V-8. And every one of them (even at 50 years old) has been treated right and never been rebuilt

they will last a lifetime if you treat them right, even into your kids lifetime.

I prefer that over an intercooler, turbos, wastegate, hoses, added oil and coolant lines, electrical sensors..
I think they are both pretty reliable, Ford has been doing turbos and intercoolers over a decade

Guess it all comes down to preference. Wife's car is a Alpina N63, and my previous was a

Agreed. Guess im just getting older now and like NA engines more. Wife's current SUV is a twin scroll N63, and I had a '97 Supra before I met her lol.

Just traded my 15’ 3.5 boost with 170k of problem free miles. Of those miles, 25% were spent towing a loaded 23’ enclosed snowmobile trailer or a 20’ boat. That truck still has tons of power.

i drove both the 5.0 and a new 3.5 before pulling the trigger on a new 3.5 last week. Honestly if a 5.0 were available I’d have left the decision up to magic 8 ball… both great power plants if you ask me.

So… my advise, go buy a magic 8 ball. Best 2 out of 3 shakes and never look back.

5.0 boys just jealous that 3.5 got more torque at 3k RPM than the 5.0 has anywhere.

If you read my entire post I complimented all the engine options and was harder on the PB for reported issues.

Let’s all just drive our trucks hard enough so that they fail under warranty…

There’s a guy in my neighborhood that babies his raptor over speed bumps.

I let my dog pee laser beams on his lawn for penance

Yes, I had the long block replaced by Ford. There was never a reason given for why the engine killed itself, other than it happens sometimes. A few months ago I had the same symptoms happening with a flashing check engine light and it running really rough, but it would come and go. I took it in immediately and was told that one of the coil packs wasn’t seated correctly. That dealership figured it was because the other shop didn’t install it right when the engine was replaced.

After all of that, two sheared axle bolts, and three rear end replacements, it’s pretty safe to say that I’d be quite hesitant to buy another Ford. My 2017 2.7 ecoboost never had an issue. The ‘21 Powerboost has been nothing but trouble. The powerboost system is amazing when it works, but my experience has been nothing but trouble.

I think they're both great engines and you can't go wrong with either engine. I agree about the transmission being the limiting factor. I put over 180k on my last 3.5 gen 1 ecoboost. I like the new 3.5 better, but I would have picked either engine if the trim packages were available. I would recommend oil changes at 4k miles in the 3.5 to really get them to last.
