Complicated? Like a twin turbo hybrid?
The PB is very complicated no doubt. It’s also powerful, fast, fuel efficient, and can power a TT, which is why I purchased mine ?

You want to find a 5.0 with the 3.73 gearing for the best seat in the pants feeling.

2024 has the 5.0 as the stock Lariat engine.

Had a 21 3.5EB Power Boost which comes with the 3.73 gearing goes like snot but way to heavy feeling to give the nice seat in the pants feeling. Scared the snot out of more than 1 passenger.

Most 3.5EB come with 3.55 gears this will get it done but just doesn't give the same feel as a V8 has. Had (2) 3.5 max tows.

Most 2.7EB equipped trucks come with the 6600 GVWR where the 3.5EB and 5.0 have the 7050 GVWR.

The backup choice to the present 22 2.7EB Payload package which gets the 6900 GVWR and 3.73 gearing was a 22 5.0 with 3.73 gearing.

Neighbor down the block has a 19 F-150 XLT with the 5.0. Constant "lifter knock" sound while running and eats oil. Local Ford shop has had it numerous times and each time says there's nothing wrong with it....

We both had 03 F-150s with the 5.0 and really liked them. Not one problem for either of us.

I'm on my second 3.5 EB (2012 first Gen and now 2023) and love it. No issues at all with the first one over 11 years (though did have the dreaded 6R80 lead frame transmission problem). No issues with the second, but have only had it for a couple of months.

I'm not a heavy foot driver and like the smoothness of the 3.5 EB.

3.5 EB for the win (for me).

These threads always become a mine is better thread LOL . Its as if our fathers made these engines :)
These motors have been torture tested year after year , yet somehow the 5.0 is far superior in withstanding abuse?
Keep in mind the 3.5 also sees use in Fords/Lincoln Full size SUV's, the police SUV's , Ford Transits and much more but yeah the 5.0 is vastly superior. ?
Dont get me wrong I love the 5.0 ( had it in my 2018 F150 and also have it in my 2019 mustang) but your vastly mistaken if you think the 3.5 is not reliable . These engines are all very good actually , no wrong motor as its your personal preference.

Did we ever hear back how apMechorse and his 5.0 with the #4 piston through the block at 58,000mi is doing? That’s the only known straight up engine failure I’ve seen on this forum. Electrical and heat exchanger stuff for the PB and then common issues like axles etc. sounded like a one off fluke to me. All the F-150 engines are impressive in their own way imo and I’ve never heard unreliable attributed to any of them until Consumer Reports and the PB. Fortunately I’d already purchased lol.

My experience with large shipboard diesels says that at about 80% load the engine operates best. From that thinking, part of the issue is good seating of rings thus a good seal for the piston another part is good mixing of the fuel air mixture. Above 80% the cylinder pressures are getting high enough to increase wear. Just a thought...

I trust the 5.0 having just sold a 2011 with 220k trouble free miles. At least the engine was trouble free.

That’s the best reason right there. If I had that experience nothing would move me.
Oh, thanks I’ll use the @ next time lol
