Im running the factory Goodyear AT at 48 lbs in front 42 rear.
Something I did notice while using E85 was oil life was a little shorter. I also read in ford manual you should fill at least 75%of the tank when switching. Essentially not mix to much. Which doesn’t make sense to me because E85 standard is 53%-85% Alcohol, pretty loose standard. The E85 in Iowa and MN is really good as well as E15/88 octane gas gave great results in my 5.0.

I don’t think Ford has a sensor for e85. My GMC had a sensor in the fuel line and with Hptuners you could see the actual percentage of alcohol in the fuel.

I don’t know how the 5.0 engine management determines which fuel is being burnt either.
it’s probably not hard though. Once it knows it loads a ethanol table to tweak just like gas timing tables.

It most certainly has a sensor. I’m running a ngauge on my truck and it tells you the percentage. This was my first fill up on e85 when I bought the truck, hence the 58%. Normally it’s around 74-78% at my local pump.

Everything i have read the 5.0 doesn't have a sensor it uses the O2 sensor to adjust for E85. That is why they tell you to make sure you are below a 1/4 tank before filling with E85 after running regular fuel and the other way around.

I found these gains from 87 -> e85 when Livernois baselined the same truck BEFORE tuning.

Results were

87 : 330 rwhp @6.19K 359 lb/ft @ 4.13k rpm
E85: 360 rwhp @ 5.15K 412 lb/ft @ 3.97k rpm

That's 30 rwhp (at a much lower rpm) and 52 lb/ft.

Just make sure you put premium gas when towing. This engines are 12.1 CR so they can easily ping with crap gas under load.
E85 is not crap gas.

I wish they had E85 in Europe. It's hard enough finding E10... most stations are E5.

This is correct, it does not have an inline fuel sensor like GM uses, it uses inferred logic on O2 sensor readings. You will get a read out of ethanol percentage, but it is not perfect.

I have my N guage in the exact same spot also reading ALCH % and Knock. I just picked up the Oz tune. He claims just need above 30% to get max benefits of E85. MY results are same takes about 2 to 3 tanks to hit 76%. Never have seen 80%. I think maybe 77% once.

Is he able to tune with ngauge now? I’m going to have him tune my truck when I go whipple. Would be nice to not have to buy a sct x4 too. And I wonder if that’s just the way our ecu’s or ngauge read it or if pump e85 is never actually 85%. I’ve never seen above 78% at any pump I’ve been at in 4 years with my old truck.

NGauge support is removed from HPT. HPT will be able to tune 2021-2022 5.0s. They're working on RTD/RTD+/TDN support. They can tune them right now using MPVI3+ after sending the PCM in to be unlocked.

Sometimes my 5.0 kind of boggs (runs rough and loud), going up a hill ~10mph shortly after a cold start. Not sure if this is ethanol related or not, but weirdly it only happens after the 1-3 shift when cold. Not sure if this is an e85 issue or not.

Yeah. I ain’t ever going back to regular gas.

2022 FX4 5.0 3.73

Last truck was a 2018 2wd supercab with the 3.5 eco. Black STX with 305 Toyos. MPT tuned 70/30 methanol. Affectionately known as ‘Sleeping Beauty’. She was bad..

50,000 miles into this 5.0 dad truck. Sport mode sucks. Otherwise wonderful tuning and super good ride with regular old 87 octane. Average 22mpg. Real nice truck.

Then I tried e85. About 16-17mpg and the power was about like when I would waste the money on 93 octane cuz I still miss Sleeping Beauty.

Then I put it in Sport mode.

Yeah. I ain’t ever going back to regular gas.
