I have a 2023 F-150 Lariat FX4 Supercrew with 3.5L Ecoboost.. The truck has 35k miles and, the H6 battery issue notwithstanding, the truck has been great. This is my first F-150 and i really like the truck.

I understand my truck has the dreaded 10R80 transmission, which I've read a lot of bad things about. I think the suggested first transmission fluid change is at 150k miles. I'm wondering if changing the tranny fluid every 30k miles is a good idea? Maybe frequent fluid changes will prevent transmission problems?

Read what bad about it?

You might be confused with the early years.

I wouldn't change every 150k. I'm going to change at 30k, do an oil analysis and then make my judgement from that.

I think many of the transmission issues have been addressed from the earlier versions.

A few transmission shops that I respect suggest a fluid change at 30-50k……MAX
They have a vested interest in recommending a shorter fluid change interval than the manufacturer - as one should expect. With synthetic lubricants the service life is much greater and the shops' profits are reduced.

My GM diesel truck with an Alison transmission had ATF changes recommended at 50,000 miles or every 2 years with TES 389 ATF but every 150,000 miles or every 4 years if using TES 295 ATF. Different fluids with different specifications results in different fluid change intervals.

Ya, I don't really get why everyone is freaking out about these transmissions. Are they quirky and a vast departure from old trucks. Definitely. But I haven't read a whole lot about them blowing up.

One person was worried about it lasting 200k miles. No transmission is reliable at 200k miles if not maintained. And if they are maintained, they can all probably make it there.

Just a little OCD with our vehicles . For our 2023 F 150 4X4 RSCB I changed the trans pan/filter and the rear diff cover at 15000.miles along with fluids. Amsoil Syn in front/rear diffs , Motorcraft LV in the transfer case , and Motorcraft ULV in the trans . Now with the plug in the trans pan I can drop around 8 qts and replace at early intervals. Good preventive mait., hoping for longevity. Did the same on our 2022 Bronco Wildtrak. just an ounce of prevention I hope.

I plan to change mine at 60k. That will be about halfway through my planned ownership.

I'm not saying to go the full Ford book mileage but rare to see posts about transmission on Gen 14 trucks. The handful with issues found it to be factory underfilled. I'm not sure how I'll do it yet but I intend to change mine well before Ford recommendation.

I am on my 5th vehicle with the 10R80. Never had any issue with any of them.

I had a Ford Tech (he wasn't getting business from me) suggest 60k, he said he would definitely not go with Ford's recommendation. I changed the fluid and filter on my '19 at just over 60k. Seemed to smooth things up too (main reason I changed it.)

I'll likely do the same on my '25, it can't hurt.

You can check you tube for some of the mechanic videos on this transmission. I’m pretty sure the upgraded parts are all part of the 23 MY
