You can check you tube for some of the mechanic videos on this transmission. I’m pretty sure the upgraded parts are all part of the 23 MY
Yes, all 2023s and later build 2022s have the upgraded parts for the CDF drum issue.

The manufacturers for all my SUVs and sedans have recommended not changing the ATF unless the transmission was being repaired and I never had one fail and I put more than 170,000 miles on each of the vehicles. My diesel pickup with the Allison transmission was different and the recommendation if using the better TES 289 ATF at 150,000 miles is based on millions of miles with heavy duty applications as when towing more than 17,000 lb trailer loads with the pickup.

For the TES289 ATF I used Castol Transynd. Amsoil may be as good but I seriously doubt it. The Amsoil diesel motor oil is one of the worst one can buy and no better than the Wal-Mart house brand of motor oil. Amsoil has done a great job with its marketing efforts for people to buy its products.

The early changes are the most important. The transmission is a hydraulic machine with fine clearances. Anything particulate can gum up the works, so getting rid of manufacturing debris is important. Note that Ford did upgrade the cleanliness of the 10R80 shops. Still a little precaution makes a difference. Once you've done a few changes, I did mine every 15k to 60k, you can extend the interval to your comfort point.

I forget where, but I saw someone who had done plenty of 10r80 rebuilds/repairs state that fluid always looks perfectly fine on any of the CDF drum replacements he's done.

You won't be able to see particles capable of sticking a piston valve. You're talking of micron sized particles.

Another question is once you're confident that the transmission fluid is as clean as you can get it... Then how often should you change fluid & filter? After all, clean and bright is as good as it gets. Well depends on how hard you work your transmission. The fluid can become unserviceable with overheating... So think about it.

I have a 2023 F-150 Lariat FX4 Supercrew with 3.5L Ecoboost.. The truck has 35k miles and, the H6 battery issue notwithstanding, the truck has been great. This is my first F-150 and i really like the truck.

I understand my truck has the dreaded 10R80 transmission, which I've read a lot of bad things about. I think the suggested first transmission fluid change is at 150k miles. I'm wondering if changing the tranny fluid every 30k miles is a good idea? Maybe frequent fluid changes will prevent transmission problems?
Yes I definitely recommend changing the fluid every 35-40K. My mileage is 60K, Yesterday I changed mine along with filter and gasket. The fluid looked really dark and needed to be changed earlier so don't follow owners manual which says 150K. Now it shifts much smoother and very happy with the results. I used Ravenol ULV d-m.

I'm a believer in early fluid changes... then 15-30K or so. The idea in early changes is get rid of as much manufacturing debris as able. I acknowledge that Ford did upgrade their transmission plant cleanliness methods. Still, there will be some and you want it out.

They have a vested interest in recommending a shorter fluid change interval than the manufacturer - as one should expect. With synthetic lubricants the service life is much greater and the shops' profits are reduced.

My GM diesel truck with an Alison transmission had ATF changes recommended at 50,000 miles or every 2 years with TES 389 ATF but every 150,000 miles or every 4 years if using TES 295 ATF. Different fluids with different specifications results in different fluid change intervals.
Yeah, what you’re saying makes sense. However the people I’m talking to here actually what I’d consider friends as well. They were giving me the, what they would do, with their own vehicles type advice.
