Been using fumoto valves on all my vehicles for decades . I even have one on my airplane. Everything in life has risks, but they work great and I trust them (obviously). That was probably a damaged or defective one. Have them replace it. You guys that poo poo everything...

Using the old plug risks stripping the pan over and over, plus you gotta replace that stupid gasket very often. Not worth it.

I use the ValvoMax drain plug since my first oil change. I never spill a drop and don't have to worry about getting bumped or anything. I didn't like the oil just draining all over the place.

You can do what I did... Instead of buying a $40 drain plug, you can buy a $4,000 car lift for your garage... (Kidding - Sort of) . Makes oil changes really easy. Glad things worked out for you...

I was doing an oil change yesterday and decided to add the Fumoto Oil Drain Plug Valve. I must have drop the plug or something because when I inserted the plug, the stem broke off. Trust me, I wasn't twisting it that hard. Luckily my brother had a tool that could unscrew the stem without breaking it or leaving it in the pan, so all is good, but quite a few cuss words came out of my mouth after it happened. I put the original drain plug in and plan to keep it from now on.

I do fine it strange that brass was used for that valve, being a softer metal.

No harm, no foul.

It is until now unheard of for anyone to curse while working on the rides especially when something breaks.

My brother bought a small home with a large pit in the garage floor. I told him to rent it out by the hour or half day, etc.

I’ve used multiple ones and never had an issue. They are OEM approved by many manufacturers.

We've used these on the fleets. American made, not Chinese and appear to address all the valve problems. Not cheap though. You get what you pay for.

On my first F-150 oil change I installed the Ronin drain plug. I like it and consider it unlikely to ever fail in any manner with proper care. That said, I would not trust a Jiffy Lube to not break it; but then I don't trust anyone to work on my vehicles if I can do it myself.

I have a Fumoto valve on my f150 and one on my 4Runner for 10+ years before that with lots of off road miles--never a problem. Are there any verifiable Fumoto valve failures? I have not heard of any. I appreciate that it is a personal preference on whether to use one, and I would not use them on anything without a skidplate. But why all the hate on Fumoto valves?

If only there was a tool to make removing the 3.5 EB oil filter as clean and simple.

I'm afraid of Fumoto valves. But I've honestly never heard a first-person account of a problem. I believe they are made in Japan.

It's a reputable Japanese company making these valves for quick oil changes since 1976, it's not lucky that it hasn't failed for him, it's engineered well. It's like a little lock on a bathroom stall, You have to make two separate motions to get it to turn.
That said, in the past few years there seem to be more of them sheering off during install, like what happened to OP.

If you put something that easy to F with, somebody will F with it. Unlikely that anyone will F with a drain plug that requires tools to open.

Well that's talking about two different things isn't it. Mechanical failure versus random people crawling under your vehicles to wreak havoc, cutting brake lines and sticking bananas in the tailpipe.

Toyota is a reputable Japanese company, yet Tundra engines are blowing up left and right.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure being a Japanese company means as much as it used to.
