I'm guessing boot down is ideal so moisture drains away from the shock body. Boot up there is a chance that moisture will sit on the shock body and the shaft seal.
Check out the F150Tremor.com forum. A couple of folks over there have done the high mount intercooler to add a winch.
Absent the intercooler issue, I would have added a winch to my truck. Kind of a bummer, hard to justify the extra cost. Makes me envy the air-water intercooler the Tundra uses.
For the rear 5100 shocks, should it be rubber boot up or down? I installed a different brand of shock and they recommended rubber boot down.
Great looking truck!
Thanks! I still need to get some bigger tires on the truck. But it's funny how just 1.5" makes the truck look bigger.
The SPC HD eccentrics and brackets hold the alignment adjustment much more strongly (i.e., offroad abuse resistant) and are easier to adjust than the naked bolts that come...
Got the alignment done, and did not do the recalibration. I tested ACC and Bluecruise before the alignment (after the lift) and after the alignment--worked fine in all cases. The 360 camera view looks fine also. So in my case, the recalibration did not seem necessary. Also I realize my math...
Just got off the phone with Les Schwab about my post level alignment scheduled for tomorrow. They say leveling will require recalibration of the various computer systems and were selling a $200 upcharge for that service--almost twice the cost of the alignment. I was under the impression that no...
I have a Fumoto valve on my f150 and one on my 4Runner for 10+ years before that with lots of off road miles--never a problem. Are there any verifiable Fumoto valve failures? I have not heard of any. I appreciate that it is a personal preference on whether to use one, and I would not use them...
Pro: Bluecruise plus adaptive cruise control is pretty sweet.
The nut clips used to attach the skid plates are handy if you ever strip the hardware
The EB 3.5 has more usable power than any other truck/suv that I have owned.
Cons: No drain plug on the front differential, and you cannot...
How are you guys tightening the oil filter? The only time I was not able to get my filter off with one hand was after the dealer did an oil change. I don't think I'm any stronger than average.
Now getting the filter out without spilling oil all over is another matter. Recently I heard for...
I change my own oil also. In the past I was more 50/50 at home or take it to a shop. But a huge draw for me to do it at home is the time savings and being able to change my oil when it is convenient for me. No calling ahead of time to schedule a service, or sitting in a waiting room wondering...
Did you have to drop the steering rack--or other parts--to get the Purple Cranium cover on a non lifted truck? I'm looking to go this direction but wondering what the time commitment would be.
Thanks!
I just changed my front diff fluid using the suction method. That was a real treat. It was a lot harder than the FordTechMakuloco video makes it sound. In 2WD you can spin the drive shaft to move the ring gear if a bolt is in the way to help get the hose in. But using the smallest hose I...
For the 8.8 front differential, I'd guess a stamped steel diff cover would be an easier fit than the aluminum Ford Performance cover. The AL covers are a lot thicker and have cooling fins. If you have access to a welder, putting a drain plug into the stock cover is an option also--if you can...
Wow. That is pretty shoddy on Ford's part. And it sounds like it has been that way for more than a decade. It would not have taken much for Ford to machine a drain plug in the housing or the diff cover. I hate to put Ford down on a Ford forum, but between the fiber diaper on the "off-road"...
Sorry if this is a super basic maintenance question. But am I correct that there is no drain plug on the front differential? I was about to do a lube swap in front and though I would do a quick search on the web for some tips. All I could find were procedures to suck out the fluid from the fill...
