How much distance did you have the cruise control set for as far as tailing distance from the car ahead.
I generally leave mine set for maximum space, but them I'm out in the country and not dealing with bumper to bumper traffic. I remember when I lived in Vancouver area, if you left three car lengths between you and the car in front, you had four cars trying to squeeze into the space so always had to choke up.
Second, did you pass a speed sign?
I have had many times when I passed a 60 KM sign and the truck read it as 80 KM and started speeding up. The 2023 Powerboost would see a 100 KM sign and read it as 120 KM. Was a rush when I had just gone through a 80 KM zone, truck saw 120 KM and rocketed its way forward.
Third did you pass a side street. It is possible for the camera to pick up a speed sign that is either on an intersecting side street, either higher speed or slower, or even on a parallel street. Was driving in a 90 zone, truck saw a 50 KM sign on a side street that wyed off the main road and immediately applied braking to reduce speed to 50 KM. This was the first instance I had with the Adaptive Cruise control, fortunately there was no one following me, and I learned that from then on, to cover the gas pedal and apply gas if it tried to do an unwanted brake stand, or to hit the down speed on the steering wheel to avoid over speeding if it read a sign higher than the posted speed.
Reading through the truck manual the other day and all three of these were mentioned as possible actions that the cruise control could do.
I use the Adaptive Cruise control quite often, especially the follow at this distance from the preceding vehicle as that radar does a better job of keeping me exactly X distance behind than I can ever do. I have used it in slow construction zones and had it keep me paced right down to a stop, and speed back up again as traffic crawled through behind the pilot car, never once getting to close to the vehicle ahead. Yup, kept my brake pedal covered at all times, just in case, but truck came out like a champ.
Highly recommend reading the manual section on adaptive cruise control and all the disclaimers it contains about what could go wrong with the system and how the driver is ultimately responsible.
Reminds me of when cruise control first came out and was called auto pilot. Sales guy sold someone a RV that was fitted with auto pilot, the driver set the auto pilot, then went back to get a coffee and was miffed that he crashed his RV.
