The Michelin Defender LTX M/S2 is the best tire on the road period. Anyone who says different has never had them on their vehicle. They’re the best in the snow, on ice, and wear well on gravel. My 24 Lariat has the Hankooks on there and I will be putting the Michelins on when they wear out. I sell a lot of different tire brands, and can get any tire I want but you’ll never beat the Michelins.
What's your thoughts on the Continental Terrain Contact HT?

I just scheduled new Michelin Defender LTX MS2s for my truck. I was considering the Continentals, but my experience with the previous version of these Michelins was excellent so I figured why mess with what I know I like.

What load rating are you guys getting on your LTX M/S2 tires? For the ones running 18’s at least. I would prefer the XL rating, but I think are all E rated if you go bigger than 265/70/18?

Mine are stock size 20s, but XL. I wouldn't want LT tires on my truck.

I agree about not wanting E rated tires but there is at least one gent in this thread who has them and is very happy with them. I was thinking maybe because they are 18’s and Michelin, perhaps the ride is still good.

I’m just trying to have it both ways and I’m not sure I’ll be able to.. slightly larger size but not E rated.

For me it about longevity and puncture resistance for going with E-Rated tires.

I need to get new tires for the Armada...I am leaning Micky Thompson's and gong down to an 18" wheels....depending how that does. I might go the same route with the F150. The suspension on the F150 is so soft...I think it will be marginal on HWY driving comfort vs. duelers.

Thank you guys for all the recommendations and sharing your experiences!
I will probably go with Michellin defender LTX MS2s from Costco since it is a better deal.
One more tire I have my eyes on is the Cooper discoverer Road+ Trail AT. Tirerack.com has very good test ratings on them. They look great as well - beefier side walls. Does anybody has these on F150 and please share you experiences? I am interested to know the MPG decrease (by how much) and the ride comfort compared to Michellins. Thanks!
I don't personally have the Coopers but a friend has them on his 18 F150 5.0 and he is very happy with them. He recommended them for my truck.

I’m in a similar situation with just over 30k on the original Dynapros. My cursory research tells me that the the Michelin Defender LTX M/S2 are hands down the best tires for me, but vanity will push me to consider something more knobby and aggressive looking ?
Same, my wife wants more aggressive looking tires, me as well, but many weenie looking tires are outperforming the AT tires in reviews and ratings. If they'd make a aggressive looking tire that actually performed well on the road that would be great. ?

Guess I am weird, but I don't care at all how a tire "looks". I instead care about how they perform their intended function. Michelin for me.

That;s what I like about the BFG Trail Terrains. We have them (18s) on our 4Runner now and will look at them when our F150 needs tires. The TTs have better looks but they still seem to be quiet, ride smoothly and the gas mileage appears to be the same as street tires.

Conti Terrain Contact HT's can be very difficult to balance beyond 70MPH.

I actually just discovered my Michelins aren't balanced quite right. Northern Maine has 75 MPH speed limits. 70 is okay, 75 you start noticing it isn't quite perfect but someone who doesn't drive the truck every day probably wouldn't notice an issue. 80 is pretty bad.

I would have never noticed at home because our limits are 65, I very rarely go on the interstate anyway, and I don't really go past 72 when I do.

I forced Discount Tire to rotate the tires on the rims until a low road force number came up. Still bounces 80-85mph, which just keeps you up with traffic on Atlanta interstates...but HeeHaww.
PS Buy a Uniden R4, 7 or 8. Your license will thank you.
