Sorry if this was already covered on here, but I had a "eureka moment" today when changing my oil.

When I drive with the window down next to a guard rail or concrete divider, I always hear a "small" metallic rattling sound. It's annoying, but I wasn't willing to go through the entire truck and check every fastener.

Well, while I was down there I hit this metal piece with the ratchet and heard the rattle! Apparently these speed nuts are used for something, but not on my Lariat. So they just flopped around all the time. Removed them, rattle gone. One more small victory for my sanity.

When I was changing my oil on my new 24 the other month, I saw those and wiggled them and was wondering what they were used for. Haven't been bothered by it and haven't heard any noise. But first thought I had was how noisy they could probably be on some trucks haha

Looks like thoes are the nuts for the front screws of the fabric undercover that ford removed sometime in 2023 i think. My 22 has one its a pain because it has to be removed everytime you do an oil change.

Makes total sense. And that would definitely be a pain for oil changes.

Such a satisfying feeling to find and fix an annoying rattle.

Good job finding it, and thanks for posting.

This means people outside the truck can hear the rattle. I'd have to fix it because I'd rather not have my otherwise mint truck sounding like a junker as I drive through my neighborhood, parking lots, etc.

Here in Minnesota when I ice fish during the winter I hear the ice cracking when I drive on it. The best solution for that is to turn up the radio and the cracking sound just goes away like magic.

And this , my friend, is the real reason little rattles bother me so much, lol

Brilliant! Thanks for posting. I've got an odd rattle like that & will check for those fasteners later this morning.

I fixed that rattle by installing the Raptor splash shield

I fixed mine by running a zip tie through the hole and pulling it tight.
