I know Ford has made some changes in the F150 version to build more low end torque, but in the end to make power in the 5.0 you have to spin it to the moon, which is fine, but even doing that the 3.5 still makes more hp and torque while its casually rolling along at 2,000rpm.
The PB does it even better. I'll take the effortless power vs angry V8 noises. The 5.0 in the F150 makes loud noises because it has to, not because it wants to. My tolerance for exhaust noise while cruising down the interstate has long burned out. Higher powered EVs and hybrids have spoiled me..... gimme that stealth.

I am not going to lie and say a V8 with a good exhaust doesn't sound like freedom. Our previous boat had through hull exhaust and even a small block 6.2 at idle sounded cool. Neighbor up the street has a Dodge 5.7 /w an exhaust and there have been times when I hear it rolling down the street I do get a bit jealous....

I'm too old to put an exhaust on my truck and stock for stock not sure there is that much difference? Yeah - Still picking the 3.5.

A nice V8 exhaust is just that until it follows you down the interstate....

Anyone wanting to get their exhaust fix, grab a gen 2 viper or C5+ vette with a cam. Maybe a lowered RCSB could work, but that's a lot of parts to swap to get the trim level up to snuff.

I just got a mustang with a 408 windsor and 12:1 compression. It has a pretty nice snarl. Don't think I'd want to drive it all day on the interstate though...

I had a 95 K1500, 350TBI, 5 speed manual with the long bed. This was after driving an 86 IROC for years. It was awesome but I overloaded it often. In 04 I picked up a K3500 extended cab long bed. That was a single rear wheel one ton with a 6.0 gas motor and 4.10 rear end. It pulled everything I ever wanted and hauled thousands of pounds of gravel and dirt. That truck brought my kids home when they were born and I drove it for 21 years. Just sold it to a younger gent that has his own construction business.
My kids are now 19 and 17, I need more cabin space than bed space now. I don’t haul gravel anymore, haven’t towed a car in years. I’m now in a much more comfy F-150 with the 5.0. Admittedly without a ton of research, but it seems the 5.0 and boosted engines are all complex. The 5.0 makes 100hp more than my trusty old one ton, and 30ft-lbs more torque. It exceeds anything I’ll need for towing/hauling in those aspects. Adding boost adds moving parts, so I went with the 5.0 NA. I like the mellow tone of the factory exhaust.
When I want loud or fast, I’ll take my naturally aspirated 6.4L Charger out. It’s not the fastest or most powerful thing on the road but it does make me smile.

Getting off my soapbox, its great that Ford Continues to offer choices so that everyone finds a powertrain that is "just right". Sounds like for you thats the 5.0.

Also, while I have never been a MOPAR guy I do love a good Muscle Car. Awesome Hemi, I am sure it puts a huge smile on your face.

I have to confess, I have always been a GM guy, until GM took the bail out from Uncle Sam and Ford didn’t.
When it was time to get my daughter a car, COVID pricing was ridiculous so I gave her my daily driver (2013 Camry 4 banger). That’s when I picked up the new family sedan. ? 4 door, RWD V8. That’s my first MOPAR and I do love it.
I work at a power plant so have to get to work regardless of weather. While the charger is great, it’s not the best in snow or severe thunderstorms. Hence getting the 4WD truck.
Now I’m driving a Dodge and a Ford, can’t really say I’m a GM guy anymore…

I sometimes wonder how the average American carries over $20k in debt and then I see the purchasing habits of people here.

It is truly amazing to me.

I can assure you @HammaMan, that preconceived notions of someone's genitalia has NOTHING to do with choosing the V8. We don't make fun of you hybrid or EV guys for being smug, do we? :lipssealed:

A V8 is what I wanted. Period. Why? I like V8s. Had the first gen Ecoboost and towed a lot with it. Great power, utter shit mpg. I was on the gas all the time. Didn't like the way it sounded. That said, the Coyote with 3.73s towing isn't going to get Prius MPG either. And I truly believe we need to stop bringing the PB into this particular conversation. It's a different animal, and one that has to prove it will continue to be reliable in the long run, imo. Just like these new TT V6 attempts from other manufacturers.

And yes, if I want to HEAR my V8, I'm going to put exhaust on it. Your "old guy ears" don't factor in to my equation. Btw, I'm 55 and maintain my immaturity. I don't like the sound of Harley's, import fart cans, or that annoying electric motor whine, but you won't find me telling people I don't like the way their vehicle sounds. Why? Because it's theirs. This becomes a "you" problem at that point, lol. My previous Jag FPace SVR was a supercharged V8. Every time I got in it, I put in Sport mode with the exhaust dampers open. Snort, crackle, pop. It was heaven.

And you aughta hear this one run...you'd hate it :ROFLMAO:

Thank you, and it really does. Old school big block sound right out of the 60s.

Man, it's a little embarrassing that I mistook an FE for a 385 series. What usually tips me off in no time is the exhaust ports of the FE.

This is why I mentioned that I'm glad Ford gives us options. I enjoy both extremes here: my Powerboost is awesome and I loved my 1st gen EB but there's just something about driving my old pushrod/stick shift 5.0 Mustang that just feels more... visceral and engaging than a modern V8, even if it is slow vs a modern car. I just want Ford to appeal to as many people as possible so they can continue to make interesting vehicles.

Love your engine. I'm still trying to figure out what direction I want to go for the 302 in my Cobra since, as I mentioned just now, it's a bit lacking by today's standards, lol.
