If i have the auto hold option turned on, it feels like it bangs when I accelerate from a light. i think its just the brakes holding on. When i turn that feature off, my trans doesn't feel like it bangs when starting from zero,

I'll echo what everyone else here is saying and say that my transmission has smoothed out as I put more miles on it. I'm at 3000 miles now and I rarely have any weird shifts that aren't caused by me. The hum and vibration issue I had at high gear/low RPMs has also almost completely disappeared.

That being said, this is the first truck I've owned that I've been able to notice little issues work themselves out after the break in period. I'm happy for that but all my previous new trucks drove the same day 1 as they did thousands of miles later so it's definitely a change for me.

My powerboost does some odd shifts similarly. It kinda drops 3-4 and 4-5 under light acceleration. 6-5 downshift can lurch. It also kinda drops into 1st pretty often.

You might be on to something though. I rented a F150 for a couple days before deciding and it was the V8. I don’t recall a single instance where I noticed the transmission.

I notice my PB constantly unfortunately.

Also if you read consumer reports reviews, they state the 10 Speed on the 2.7 test truck was basically flawless while they complained about the transmission on their Powerboost.

I’m starting to wonder if it just comes with the territory on the Powerboost. Which is too bad. I can’t just stop noticing the transmission.

keep in mind, the transmission and the power boost does have the electric motor in it. While the basic guts are the same, the transmission is actually slightly different hence the 10R80MHT designation.

you might want to take it in and have them reset the learning. I have a 24, 12 K miles, it’s extremely smooth. At least once a week I make a point of driving it in a mode other than normal. I’ve done that since day one. Not sure if that helps but it seems to work for me.

Hey everyone,

Picked up a 2024 501a powerboost about a month ago and love almost everything about the truck. I've had two previous 2.7 10R80 F150s, and I felt as if those transmissions were smooth as butter on up and downshifts. Never had any powertrain issues whatsoever with them.

I've got roughly 500 miles on my PB and have noticed some transmission "quirks". One time I started the truck and quickly put it into drive and it SLAMMED into gear, it felt terrible - I chalked that up to me not giving the truck a couple seconds after turning it on, and hasn't happened since.

Other than that, I find it clunky on the downshifts (specifically 3 to 1 when coming to a stop). I wouldn't say its HARSH, per say, but it is enough that I feel the truck slowing via the transmission when it goes from 3rd to 1st and the truck is in electric mode. I don't remember that at all with my 2.7.

All that to say - is this normal? will it get better after the truck is broken in? am I just a bit too critical and need to give it some time?!

Any comments would be appreciated!
I was not really happy with the way my trans was shifting, and after reading many posts regarding the factory fill on the transmission fluid was either too full or not full enough, I decided to go through the steps to check mine. It was WAY overfilled. I sucked out as much as I could using an inexpensive fluid transfer pump and filled it back to the recommended level. This improved the shifting considerably AND I got some fresh fluid in the system. I will probably do this every 30k miles.

Thanks for the reply - that is what I figured, but it feels nicer hearing it from a stranger on the F150 forum :cwl:

I know the transmission is different having the hybrid component, but I think I just came into it expecting the exact same experience as my 2.7s.
Unfortunately, I think the 10R80 transmission is "hit or miss" from Ford on how smoothly it shifts. For the first few years after introduction it had a LOT more misses than hits but I think Ford has made progress on the transmission responses to upshifting and down shifting. I still see posts on forums similar to yours but nowhere near as many as there used to be. MY 2019 truck was miserable going up and down and my dealer replaced the main valve control box twice to try to tame it down but to no avail. My 2022, on the other hand is smooth as silk. Keep your fingers crossed that you are just experiencing some break-in quirks.

Owned my 2021 PB since new, and let's just say the tranny had "character".

However, the more miles I put on it, combined with OTA updates (sometimes applied manually with FDRS), sitting at about 35k miles, the transmission shifts like butter.
