Check this out around the 20 minute mark. This guy has been investigating this problem. looks like LED get hot and burn the plastic and then the light doesn't pass thru it.
This is fascinating. Whats the update that lowers the DRL output? I want to see if I have it applied. If these truely are burning the fiber interface, Id imagine a recall and compensation for everyone whos had to deal with this should be common sense.

if it's not a safety issue, i doubt they'll recall

Classifying a defective DRL system as a “safety issue”, may depend on your geographical location.

In Canada, DRL use is mandatory - just like seatbelt use. Both of these items must be in proper working order, and if not, the driver could be subject to a fine (ticket).

So, if a recall could be issued for a problem with the seatbelt system, then it could also be issued for a problem with the DRL system.

Does this mean you guys dont have the menu option to turn off DRLs?

If the DRLs were a serviceable element then there is no issue, it would be the same as a burnt out bulb - simply replace it. The problem is the integrated lights. All manufactures are guilty of this.

interesting.. i know some have experienced total darkness of their DRL and some have experienced dimness of their DRL. ultimately this crap shouldn’t be happening either way ?

i didn’t expect to hear that one! give tomball ford or joe myers ford a try. those are my two go to’s that have been ok for me.
I'll have to keep them in mind since my truck is always broken. I am out near Simonton so Autonation is my closest dealership but they have had my truck there over 215 days trying to fix it so far.

Ford is going to have some issues in the future with these lights failing in countries that require daylight running lights.
