I put tint all around including the windshield and removed the front plate because it’s illegal and it looks way better. Fuck Leo’s

Tell them to mind there business?
My windshield is 20% and all the other windows are 5%. Never been pulled over for window tint in 10 years!

I have a history of migraines due to a TBI. My doctor at the VA wrote me a prescription saying that dark tint is a medical necessity for my vehicle. I have 5% all around, with a small brow on the windshield (don’t like to tint windshields) and I’ve only had to show it to a cop once. I make sure to roll my windows down as soon as I get pulled over, to make sure the police has good visibility of the interior of my truck. No issues yet.

I’ve only ever been pulled over for tint once, and that was with 5% all around and 50% on the windshield. Cop was an asshole, and told me he’d “be watching for me.” Almost at 20 years now no tickets, guess he wasn’t watching hard enough!

But really, now that your front plate is on, you’ll likely never get pulled over. Expensive vehicles don’t get pulled over for “probable cause” stops, sketchy ones do.

It exists, just expensive. Also needs power -- some are dark when unpowered so risky
That would be a dream option and I'd love a truck that went completely dark when it was shut off. Great safety feature but also just more comfortable.

Another option is the UV activated tint where in direct sun it darkens down to 25% VLT but at night it's a 75%. That's near perfect for windshields / most people. I wouldn't use though as I use the 50% windshield at night, as much as I do during the day. Hilly roads combined with poor lighting strategies found in too many vehicles these days makes the 50% a requirement for me at night. Particularly those fools swapping LEDs into housings they don't belong in.

So much depends on where you live and whether you are white or not with regard to law enforcement folks. I was initially surprised to see how much slack the local cops gave for vehicles with faulty brake lights and similar issues as compared to California where the CHP and local police would not hesitate to pull over the driver and issue a citation.

I live in an area where there are no street lights and so heavily tinted side windows and windshield would be foolish.

I focus more on safety than conforming to laws. If traffic is moving along at 80 mph and the speed limit is 65 mph it makes no sense to drive at 65 mph to conform to the law.

I "try" to stay out of other's business ... for me I have the front plate, keep the tint legal and use my turn signals ... I prefer flying under the radar if you will. I don't drink and drive anymore (no more Friday happy hour to 10pm). As others have stated, why give a cop an easy reason to "just pull you over" to see what's happening ...
