When Ford first came out with the integrated step in the tailgate I thought it was a waste. As a guy gets older and don't move like you used to its very handy. The kids even ask to use it as they aren't quite tall or strong enough to pull themselves up.

Agree and wish mine had it...however any mod to create that integrated tail gate would be far too expensive. Live and learn. Cheers!

Are you referring to the optional integrated step that is located inside the tail gate? That would be wonderful, but it can't be backfitted.
Yes to the optional integrated step.

I have a few of these and have one that I either keep in the bed, or by my front door. I actually use it mostly to clean my windshield more than anything else. They’re lightweight and I get mine for free when people throw them away in the alley because they get paint on them or for a few bucks at Salvation Army.

People also like those aluminum folding platforms from Harbor Freight.

Once when I had to load an 800lb motorcycle by myself and couldn’t get it to the very top. I emptied most of the air out of my tires on my first truck.

Now that I’ve had my truck for a while. I think I am going to lower it in the back just a little bit with one of the 1.5” lowering shackles.

Also, be careful and don’t stick your hands or fingers in the stake pockets when getting out of the pickup bed, because you might slip or get stuck and amputate or deglove a finger on the sharp interior edges!

I thought it was gimmicky when I bought my truck and thought I'd never use it......I use it every time I need to get into the bed now. Most useful thing on the truck.

@Cobra129 perhaps you can find a matching color tailgate with the fold-away step from a junkyard for cheap.
I concur. This was one of my first options to add-on when I ordered my '23. I also use/enjoy the step frequently.

Thank you, looks like it just might be the best solution, a small portable (foldable) step stool that can be retained in the bed....Cheers

I went with a generic AMP step. I like the way it folds up under the bumper and that I don't have to keep a step stool in the bed.

which one? I saw some generic ones on Amazon that were quite a bit cheaper, but couldn’t tell if there was a reason for it. Are you happy with the one u got?

When I was still in a Toyota, some would buy the Toyota branded one, some the AMP and others the generic model. I never heard of any failures from any model. I had the Toyota as ai bought a “new take off” a guy removed from his truck.

These fold down steps get my vote, they are wonderful.
They may be problematic of you live in the snowbelt

I went with the folding ladder that attaches to the tailgate. It was a very frugal option for me. I am only inconvenienced by it when I need to slide something into my bed - like a refrigerator or something I lift from the ground. I have to deploy the ladder first so it is out of the way. Very happy with this option.

And with this one it comes down at an angle so it’s usable even with the tailgate down? Is the main support metal?

crazy the price difference between this and the amp one.
Quality of brackets, quality of aluminum, quality of the spring and singe bushings.

Yes, this one is useable with the tailgate down
