Also this APIM didn't come with my truck, it was one of 8" screen
There is newer software available for you apim. Because you upgraded to the 12" screen FDRS does not recognize the APIM you installed as being correct for the truck. You will need to somehow
sideload the software in order to move forward. This is beyond my knowledge.

I was successful in updating all my modules except the IPMA. It failed with the following error code:
Ford F-150 ECU module programming guide using FDRS IMG_5714

The DTC now shows initialization failure and when I try and PMI the module it fails right away. Can anyone help?

I know this has been asked before - but I can not find the answer. In what folder on the hard drive does FDRS keep the data file/s on the truck that is updated? FDRS sure squirrels them away down deep in a subfolder.

I must have jumped the gun. I cleared the DTCs and rescanned, the issue is gone. Looks like I'm good. Now I just need to update IPC after I figure out why the truck won't recognize 3 different USBs, all formatted exFAT.

The process to replace your PCM is straight forward:

Physically swap PCM under the hood.
-- You have to remove the 3 connectors (like you were flashing with SCT)
-- Then there are 2 plastic clips holding at the top of the cover, once you push down and unclip those, then you have to pull the entire cover towards you, on my truck I thought I was going to break it.
-- You can twist it down and out of the way. There are several wires on Christmas trees attached to the bottom of the cover, leave everything attached.

Once you have the cover off, there are 2 white retaining tabs that you twist out of the way. The old PCM pulls directly out of the PCM bracket using the sides of the PCM as rails. The new PCM goes in precisely the same way—reverse order.

Hook up the battery charger to the battery.
Configure your laptop with FDRS + dealer login.
Click on the tools tab, then find PCM - Programmable module installation (PMI) and run it.
Follow the steps accordingly.

After this is done the truck won't start because there isn't any immobilizer configuration.

You'll need to go to PCM -- PATS Programming
When that loads up, you'll want to pick:
Module Initialization (Parameter reset)

The first time I ran the PATS programming, it failed. I went back and ran it again and it worked. The truck started right up.

PCM is going to Fedex (and HPTuners) once I finish up with work for the day. If you have specific questions, send me a PM.

Update: One other thing I forgot, you must do a Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Misfire Monitor Profile Correction Learn procedure to remove the permanently set P0315. The tremor exhaust is pretty loud at 4500 RPM lol!
Same process work for replacing an earlier pcm ('21 to a '23), and will it write the correct VIN?

Some vehicles just won't take certain USB updates for the IPC. If FDRS gives you the option to CAN it in, do that. It will take 6 hours, so plan accordingly.

Did you do it yourself or did you buy a kit from a company that specializes in those things?

I did it myself
Unfortunately the people on here that know about this stuff do it for a living and are unable to help you with it. There have been several threads with people unable to update after a DIY swap. I think most just live with it. At this point I don't think they are going to add much to our trucks. Lower trim probably wouldn't have adaptive cruise so you won't miss out on future updates to that.

Trying to understand something: everyone talks about odometer "now shows" tenths of a mile after update.
My truck is stuck on "no updates" since it was born, it is 2021 job 2, I have tenths of a mile on my odometer without any update.
What am I missing?

That was job 1 trucks. Job 2 should have already had the updated IPC software on it. :)
