Not to put you on blast good sir but that’s not how you should hook up a charger to your truck

Attach the negative lead to either a chassis ground or further out on the battery post so your BMS recognizes the charge (y)

Indeed. The BMS can't see the charge without flowing through the shunt.

And that is the problem, Replacing the factory battery with a higher quality aftermarket battery doesn't really fix anything. You are replacing a battery that has been hurt by undercharging with a new battery. But the CAUSE of the undercharging hasn't been fixed. Your problems go away because not only is the new battery not damaged, But is higher quality so will take longer to become damaged.

Charging the battery helps for sure, Absolutely. However, the truck isn't then going to charge that battery until it meets all the requirements for charging. If I charge my battery, Sometimes I can go 3 or 4 days before the truck tries to charge the battery. And thats not because its charged, Its because it isn't dead enough.

Even though all 2021+ Ford vehicles have this problem, its only the people that make small drives that are going to have any problems. Driving 20m or less every ignition cycle isn't enough in most cases. Even 30 min while much better, doesn't fully recover the battery, especially in colder temps. Here in Northern Illinois, a 30 min drive will keep me around that 12.5 to 12.6v range. But now that winter has set in, 12 to 12.3 is all I can pull off on the same drive.

What does this all mean? Unless Ford comes out with an update that fixes this, And this all can be fixed with an OTA update, 100%, Means short trippers are going to have battery problems. Easiest fix? Install on on-board charger and plug it in at least once per week. Or drive more.

**Edit**

I'm not saying don't replace the battery! I'm just saying that you will probably eventually still have problems. I know I and many other still do. It just took longer.

Good points all, and connecting the negative to a grounded location otherthan than the battery slipped my mind.

The purelead battery won't directly fix the charging problem, but it will help with the SOC of the 12V battery.

Purelead will accept a charge 2-3X faster than a carbon AGM due to lower restiance, so those short trips will do less damage the unit.

So why didn't I have any battery problems in my 2015 Platinum with the same driving patterns I've been doing for years?
I work from home so I don't drive long distances and I go and get a coffee about 5 minutes from my house every morning. I've been doing that routine for who knows how many years with multiple automobiles

Because that was a 2015. The problem lies with Fords new BMS programs that they came out with on the 2021 model years. Before that they used different programming. I don't know what exactly that is, but it definitely worked differently.

So is it just this generation's BMS system that's messed up? I thought it was the same because it even has the same BMS reset steps as the previous truck

Yep! The hardware is fine. Just the programming. Things are managed differently.

I thought the same thing until I toured their plants and had JBI test both options.

They are both significant upgrades over the OEM option, but NSB greatly outshines Odyssey.

Your not wrong, But thats like saying a 50BMG has more penetration than a 9mm.. Those are greatly different batteries. The NSB is made for power storage for solar and backups. You don't get NSB's for vehicle starting batteries, At least, Not that I've seen. You get the same size battery from any of the 3 and they are pretty much identical is specs and performance.

I'm just saying, You cant go wrong with any of the three. All great choices for replacing the factory battery.

NSB has various styles of batteries, which include dual-purpose, high-rate, and deep-cycle.

Their dual-purpose line is the automotive (along with some other sizes) and supplies more CCA and holds its true RC better than any other option.

Look at their blue vs red line. The red is high rate with low cycles, while their energy storage is the blue line.

Do you have a link? I'm still only see Blues and Reds for energy storage.
