Another crazy method to add to our theories to trigger an OTA. I just replaced my MotorCraft H7 battery with an Interstate H7 battery and reset the BMS and bam! There it is! Update scheduled for tonight. I believe it should be 6.5.0. Downtime is 45 minutes. I will keep the trickle charger on it tonight to keep the battery juiced up.
Interesting. The 6.5.0 is supposed to down load at 1:00 AM tonight. However all the verbage says my truck will be down 12 minutes.

I just put it on order. Hopefully its power draw to log the data 24x7 isn’t too high. I doubt it is or people wouldn’t use it….

Do you use this unit?

Thanks again!
The tiniest of draw. Something like 1.5 miliamps.

I connect from inside the RV to the truck parked outside. This is a couple of minutes ago after getting home from eating Mexican with the grandkids.

Ford F-150 2021+ F150 Power-Up and Priority OTA History Thread 1000019950

We were in the restaurant for about 20 minutes before 6PM, when I knew that my truck was scheduled for the 6.8.0 update.
I went outside to view through the window to see if there was any visual evidence. I left my phone and the FOB in the restaurant.
Sure enough the Sync screen popped on with a big 60 second countdown for the impending update. There was some text below the counter, but my windows are tinted and I couldn't make it out exactly. After the 0:00 value displayed, the screen shrank to about 50% of the size of the display and has a progress circular graphic with some more unreadable text. It was supposed to last 12 minutes, so I went back in the restaurant and had dinner.

Sure enough the update succeeded, and my "My View" in the instrument cluster reset to factory. The radio had switched to AM static.

The Bluetooth battery monitor log shows the voltage activity for 6:00-6:12pm
(Note the vertical line for 18:00 [6pm])

1. Arrival at restaurant and shutting down truck. This always results in the immediate drop from DC/DC converter output voltage to the 12V AGM voltage. And it tanks below the voltage that the battery will settle at because the lights and various modules are drawing the battery while you walk away.

2. As the automatic lights shut down and the footrail tucks away, the load lessens and the battery starts to recover towards its resting voltage.

3. Is the 6pm mark and the OTA initiates! You can see the instaneous hit on the AGM, just as it was settling for about 20 minutes since the truck was parked.

4. But then what happens about 2 minutes into the update?
The Voltage spikes UP!
I believe that this makes a case for the DC/DC converter being enabled. I'm not saying all OTA updates include the trigger to do so, but how else can the low voltage side of the truck INCREASE while being taxed?

5 is about 6:12 Pm. And just as the update predicted, it was over in 12 minutes. 5 is the battery back to resting state.

6 Supper is over and I return to the truck and head home.

7 is the screenshot above when I connected to the Bluetooth voltage meter from the chair I'm typing in. 12.59V.

In the time it took to type this, exactly 59 minutes according to the timestamps on the 2 screenshots, the resting voltage has slowly increased to 12.71V (from 12.59V)

I was curious about that as well when I read your post. 6.4.0 installed on 12/08 so I assume it’s 6.5.0 for me, but haven’t verified.

It is about 12 minutes. OTA keep saying 45 minutes now mine does same thing. I check my phone after 15 minutes and all done on the first few 6.x updates.

Great information. If that is actually grabbing additional power from hybrid battery to complete the ota Ford has really done there homework. Nice advantage over the ICE trucks.

just realized something. A few questions:
1) Does the hood being open stop OTA's from downloading? I know it stops some from installing.
2) Original battery in the truck, has not given me any deep sleep and on a maintainer, stopping OTA's from downloading?
3) I have a August 12th OTA still showing on the SYNC screen as complete even today. This be an issue?

Just make sure the hood is shut before you the the install start. Or the OTA will fail due to prerequisite conditions not being met. Good luck! ?
Yes, the hood is shut. Thanks for the follow-up.

Good questions
1) it's my understanding that OTA'S are downloaded while the vehicle is running and has cellular connectivity. I don't think anyone has proven that wifi connectivity will make the download load. I believe the hood, sorry bonnet will need to be shut in order to have the trigger sent which initiates the ota.
2) get rid of the crippled battery and install a new H8, you wont have to think about charging again.?
3) ask rugedraw, I would think you should have gotten something since August. ?‍♂

One reason I am asking is my maintainer plugs into a quick connect plug that I have to open the bonnet to get to. I know the OTA 's are downloaded on the cel system. Battery is next to be changed out. H7 or 8 will be installed.

Definitely went out to check mind just in case  now sitting out thinking about charging the laptop and undoing the changes I made to go to glare free while I wait for nothing to happen.

1) Downloading no. Installing? Supposedly. I've never tested it out myself or know of anyone that has, but just keep it closed as per usual and it's a moot point. I can tell you the parking brake and having the headlights off means nothing as far as OTA installs go.
2) OTA triggers are created by the server aka mothership. This will happen even if your battery is disconnected. A bad battery will not prevent an OTA from being sent to the truck or downloading. It only affects the ability for the update to install.
3) Non-issue. Since there is nothing new to report, it is showing old news.

Drove my MY22 XLT PB and got the message that OTA 6.5.0 is scheduled for download and install tonight (technically tomorrow at 1:00 am). Said truck would be out of action for 12 minutes.

We will see how it went when I get up tomorrow.
Woke up after a couple hours sleep. Since it's 1:45 AM, I checked Ford Pass on my phone. 6.5.0 down loaded and installed with no problem.

You getting rid of glare free or adding it (could read that both ways)? If removing, why? Thanks.

Removing it. Only because I'm relatively certain I had something wrong when I did the change to enable it. Just wasn't acting the way I think it was meant to. I'll be trying it again soonish.

I can tell you the parking brake and having the headlights off means nothing as far as OTA installs go.
But... reddit said..... Saw that last night. @Snakebitten nailed it in that thread saying that the one thing OTA has done reliably is create endless content. Some of which is very entertaining.

FWIW I did turn my lights off last night, but only because they kept blinding people walking down our sidewalks, the parking brake turned itself on when I parked for reasons known only to god and the truck itself, and I'm pretty sure the wifi was on but I couldn't be bothered to check. Did I do it right? I think I missed the part about signing a song or something.

No updates for me ?‍♂ ? RIP
