Just purchased a ‘21 Lariat 5.0. It seems like the 5.0 vs 3.5 is pretty similar reliability-wise, but the sound of the V8 won me over. Thanks for the input, all!
Nobody in their right mind would argue exhaust notes. American V8 vs mail truck? NOPE

The only way to botch a V8 sound is to channel one's inner nascar hillbilly. That clearly enters into the inverse peen length v. exhaust dB realm (applies regardless of the street driven vehicle's type including wheel count ie: motor cycles). You can clearly see, or hear for that matter, those desperately attempting to compensate.

Put another way, if you pull up next to a very quiet F150 with a shiny rectangular badge down low behind the front wheel, go easy when the light turns green lest that beautiful exhaust note be all that remains for your comfort. ;)

Shouldn't be a problem.

Coyotes don't usually hang out in dealer service department parking lots. ?
Good one lol. In the USAF, we called the F-22 the Rampster. That special RF absorbing coating was a pain in the a$$ everytime a panel had to be removed lol.

*Different story once she was in the air though..

Lots of basics. Vehicle shape, American vehicles are larger, heavier, and wider. Americans like RWD longitudinal layouts, European manufacturers typically avoid that application—we love it in everything, literally everything. Engine design. Just look at Le-Mans, last year we had a pushrod V8 and a naturally aspirated DOHC V8 both racing under Chevy. Next year Chevy will be sending the DOHC V8 again, and Ford will be sending the 5.0L Coyote and well as a 5.4L stroker Coyote. Everyone else across the globe competing in these circuits is running forced induction in smaller displacement packages or smaller high revving V-12 with very small bores. Americans use cubic inches with larger bores/pistons in a 90 degree V-8 formation.
BMW and Mercedes both like RWD layout. Merc's have that stupid fun AMG 6.3 V8 that sounds like a muscle car... I believe but am not sure that Audi S6 and S8 are twin turbo V8's.
I know for sure my boss's S6 is a TT-V8.

Listen to those Mercs roar!

Another nice thing about the Euros is that BMW, Merc and Audi will let you buy a muscle wagon.
Caddy got close. But alas the CTS-V Wagon with the 6.2 M6 didn't last long... Or the G8 GXP....

Rolls-Royce, Jaguar, TVR and many more use RWD layouts.

What American car is bigger, longer and heavier than an S-series, 7-Series, Audi S8, VW Passat, Volvo S90? There was the Chrysler 300 but hell, that's based on an old Mercedes chassis from decades ago. Def not saying one is better than the other. But, I wouldn't discount a vehicle based on origin.

Interesting how people ask about the "best" engine and then ignore the information about reliability and make an emotional decision to buy the V8. because they like the sound out the tailpipes.

What people do not realize is that more cylinders for a given displacement equals more pollution and that is why V6 engines have replaced the V-8 engine in most production vehicles.

It is also wrong to compare the Cummins engines that go into pickup trucks with the Cummins engines being used in big rigs. Cummins engines going into pickups are no more reliable than the Ford or GM diesel engines and all are subject to much greater wear on fuel injectors as a result of burning diesel fuel. Replacing injectors on a V-8 diesel is a $4,000 repair job.

Fact: my 5.0L V8 produces less Nox emissions and CO2 per mile than the brand new Stellantis 3.0 Hurricane engine. My 5.0L V8 F-150 also produces less NoX and CO2 emissions per mile than the 3.5 EcoBoost in my aunts Expedition per both window stickers on the EPA section :). The 5.0 is not comparable to any other domestic V-8, its running a 12:1 compression ratio (same ratio as the FR9 NASCAR engine btw) which extracts great power and produces a very complete burn. Ti-VCT and cylinder deactivation also come into play for power and emissions. No other domestic V-8 is adorned with this level of technology besides the new 5.5 in the Corvette ;).

a 5.0 on corn, aka E85 is very clean...so how does a diesel 6 cylinder Cumming rolling coal, have better emissions than my corn fed 5.0, just because 2 less cylinders?

There's a cause and effect on any cylinder engine. it cant be just 6 versus 8, one has better emissions. Too many factors. The reason more cars are doing 6, or even 4 cylinder is Government mandates.

I doubt the 3.5 Ecoboost is the cleanest burner of the options.

But considering that my Powerboost has traveled more than 3000 miles without burning a drop? Factored in, that's gotta lower the carbon footprint some?

What else is the best?
Reg cab vs Supercab vs Supercrew?
5.5 box vs 6.5 vs 8'?
Column shift vs Console?
These always kind of topics always crack me up. Do your research (there's already tons online) and just buy whatever you like.... I guess unless the intent is to start a p!ssing match.

To be fair, it's possible that "best" to some people is 100% related to engine sound, not fuel efficiency, so that emotional decision seems valid, at least to some.

That's why it's fun walking away from them so effortlessly. I'm sure they're back there behind me exhorting the superiority of 12:1 compression but I can't hear them over that loud exhaust roar!

Until a supercab pulls up on E-85 and pulls away from you all the way to the governor, while you enjoy the beautiful exhaust note coming out its tailpipe. I got a clean 5.26 second 0-60 run on E-85 I’ll have you know (no tune). Rawr.
