ECU module programming guide using FDRS

Not every update applies to every truck and even having someone remotely check it on forum you could see more or less updates when you are plugged in. If you do choose to update with FDRS, and you update everything to current versions, you would be fully up to date and no OTAs required.
If Ford then releases an update in future after your FDRS work, then you will receive the update OTA.
I updated my truck with FDRS then they released the propower update afterwards which I received OTA.

If you have full screen Android Auto and Carplay, rear cameras working in motion, and Alexa, then you are feature complete. Every other update is just bug fixes and adds nothing. If your truck works fine as it sits then I wouldn't bother giving Ford a dime for a FDRS license and just wait for your OTA to come in eventually when your number comes up in the OTA lottery.

That same update popped up in FDRS for some 2022/2023 Lightnings today. They were saying it may address the speaker popping sounds trucks are making when you open the door or the tailgate.

That same update popped up in FDRS for some 2022/2023 Lightnings today. They were saying it may address the speaker popping sounds trucks are making when you open the door or the tailgate.

A new SSM dropped overnight relating to this issue but it calls for reprogramming the DSP, not the ACM. I haven’t seen anything describing the purpose of the new ACM Update.

SSM 51926 2021-2023 F-150, 2022-2023 Expedition - Pop Noise And/Or Static In Speakers At Start Up

Some 2021-2023 F-150, 2022-2023 Expedition vehicles equipped with 10 channel audio digital signal processing (DSP) module may exhibit a pop noise and/or static in the speakers at start up that cannot be turned down or off using the audio system controls. To confirm a vehicle is built with a 10 channel DSP module, verify the minor feature code, F-150 (IDBBQ)/Expedition (IDBAP or IDBBR), by reviewing the build information by double-clicking the vehicle identification number (VIN) in the upper left corner in the Professional Technician System (PTS) website. To correct the condition, reprogram the DSP module to the latest software level using the Ford Diagnosis and Repair System (FDRS) diagnostic scan tool. For claiming, use causal part 18B849 and applicable labor operations in Section 10 of the Service Labor Time Standards (SLTS) Manual.

Installed updates for the ABS, DSP, and GWM last week. All seemed to work correctly but the GWM is still in my list. The update for the CMR failed. I tried again today. Failed again. Tried one more time. Failed. Thought I might as well try the other update, the ACM. I get the message asking if I am installing a woofer. Stopped there.

After the multiple fails, my module list was lit up like a Christmas tree. Ran self test on all the orange modules. All failed first self test but worked the second when clicking "clear and retest". Cleared all except the BCMC which is still orange and the CMR which is now purple.

Drove the truck, everything SEEMS fine.

Any ideas?

For the GWM, check FORScan and see what software version it’s reporting. If it’s newer than what FDRS is showing, the software installed fine. FDRS just failed to update the as-built data.

As for the ACM, go ahead and select “No“ to the woofer prompt. The software will then proceed to install. Nodes F123, F124 and F188 all receive an update.

Well I can tell you that the issue isn't with the DSP because I don't have the DSP and get the issue. It's appropriate they're now going the ACM route because it's not the DSP. This may be a mixup on their part in relaying the information.

That makes sense. I just haven’t seen anything from Ford confirming that that’s what they’re doing.

At least one member reported the loud pop/static issue happening again after DSP update. They reported it last night in another thread on here.

I haven’t heard about the DSP update being particularly successful in general. Ford evidently seems to think it’s the fix (judging by today’s SSM) but I don’t think they’re right about that. I’ve never experienced the issue so I can’t confirm either way.

I don't have the practical means to dive into workings of the system, but based on experience it sounds like the amp turns on before the audio output device. It can also turn on and off a few times with the door open. To me at least, it sounds like the ACM is turning on after the amp causing the same type of pop you'd get from inserting a mic into a live input jack.

ACM update is there for me, too.

That's a hard pass. I invoke the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" bylaw.
