Starnge. 2.8.2 is the one than enables BC. You don't show getting that one or 2.8.3. Stange indeed.
…and 3.5.3 just delivered. What an amazing run of 6 updates in a little over 2 weeks! Same for you @Txmade ?

again there’s verbiage in the update notification that they may have updated these releases some.

3.5.4 installed tonight, so the pattern of every 3 days or so continues. I believe there’s only 4.2.1 left and I’ll finally be up to date.

edit- and again a notice that maybe something changed fromearlier version of this download. My theory is that maybe they identified an issue with job 1 trucks that could get them stuck. They’ve finally resolved that and repackaged these updates to avoid it. So maybe now they’ve opened up job 1 to get updates again, except for any that are already stuck. I think they have to do them in batches to handle the load or to make sure the process is working. I think they paused the 21G01 program so they could get as many trucks updated OTA to minimize cost of getting dealers to do it.

Ok, so here is my story on OTA updates:

I was stuck and after several months of waiting for 3.5.3 I emailed several dozen people at Ford. I had called the OTA help line which are very nice people but have no clue.

A few weeks ago, I got an email from a person at Ford that is kind of high up and they arranged to have my dealer update it to 3.5.3 at no charge. The dealer wanted $250-350 to do it, and I get they don't get paid.

Anyways, it took the dealer about 45 minutes and I got a call that it was done, as well as a message on the Ford Pass app that it had successfully updated.

This afternoon, I got a message on my iWatch that the Ford Pass showed an update to 3.5.4. The best of luck in the future for everyone and myself. I probably will buy a mongoose, a proper battery tender/charger to keep it charged while updating and FDRS for short periods of time.

Not sure about that theory, still on 2.7.4 here.

Good morning. I found this forum while researching OTA’s I think I may be in a similar situation. Here’s my current situation. 2021 F150 King Ranch Fx4 5.0, purchased May 2021

Last update shows to be 3.5.2 from Oct of last year. Cameras with speed work just fine. All updates prior to this came through OTA just fine (2.8.1 was tough and required a new battery to make it work)

Called the OTA support line this week and was told that I have “several updates available, and multiple error codes showing”. They were very nice and told me to take the truck to the dealer for further troubleshooting. After reading various threads here, I’m starting to see a pattern, and I’m not too hopeful that my dealer will be of any help.

I’m fairly comfortable with the idea of diy FDRS updates and wanted to join this great forum in case I need assistance in the future. Gonna try the dealer option and see how that goes, but preparing for a Mongoose purchase in the near future.

If anyone wants to take a look here’s my VIN. 1FTFW1E55MFA99680

thanks for all the great info!

I think Ford has lost interest in supporting the 2021 model year. I am beginning to suspect there may need to be a hardware change to make these early models do OTA reliably since the 2022 and higher PB's seem to be doing fine. Time for a 2024 PB. May be part of Ford's plan. FDRS is a pain but I am beginning to approach it just like updating the iPhone.

I'm usually an encourager to jumping in the FDRS pool. Not just for OTA updates that fail, but rather the wonderful updates for a 2021 (especially) that are never going to be sent to your truck as an OTA.

PCM updates, for example. A 2021 can gain substantial drivability polishing, if you will. :)

Having said all that though, since your truck successfully updated previously into the 3.5.X range, you might first try purchasing the battery charger recommended for FDRS updates, because you would need it anyway, and then just give your battery a nice low Amp overnight smart-charge.

You might be surprised to find those previous failed updates start flowing? :)

I'm guilty of being over-optimistic at times, but I think it's early to declare Ford is done with 2021 at the 3.5.X level.
Or put another way, I still believe that at some point soon somebody with a 2021 is going to post that they received a 4.x.x update.

And then there's going to be a collective sigh, followed closely with the predictable flood of posts regarding. :)

Thanks! I already have the recommended charger so I will try that this weekend. My daily commute is 45 mins to 1 hr, and battery was replaced last fall. Also the start/stop works fine, so I think the battery is good but I honestly haven’t thought about trying the charger again. Will give it a shot!

I can confirm that. When I did a PCM update about a year ago I got a 2 to 3 mpg boost in fuel economy. Just did another PCM update on my 2021 PB a few days ago. Too early to tell if anything changed.

So do you think these 2021 OTA updates are failing because the battery voltage is not high enough? That would make sense as these batteries age they are not keeping voltage high enough between starts to pass the test to do an OTA update.

When I brought my 2021 PB current doing an FDRS software update a few days ago the Driver Status Monitor Camera Module [CRM] took very long to do. All the time my battery voltage was slowly drifting down. This update took much longer than the APIM update. This was the first time I have updated this module. It did not show up last year.

Your truck is on Sync 22192 and you have had 3.5.3 sent to you and fail twice. There is nothing wrong with your truck. As per usual, the problem lays with Ford's crappy OTA process.
