I may have a solution to the interlock kit issues…Why wouldn’t something like THIS work??

TFL Trucks used this exact method when they Received a “fault” while trying to charge another vehicle and it fixed it immediately. It even specifically mentions either “pounding a large metal rod into the ground or using the plug”:

There are other videos on the topic as well and it seems that all it requires is plugging into one of the other outlets on the generator:

Thoughts?

From my understanding, that plug is for a floating neutral ground generator. The 7.2kw powerboost is not this. I think the 2kw or 2.4kw is floating as well as a lot of smaller portable generators.

Thanks for the response

That plug interconnects the ground wire & the neutral wire. It is not an interlock.
Thanks for stating the obvious…I understand that as I know what an interlock is. What I was suggesting is installing an interlock kit, hooking up the generator (which would cause the “fault”) and then plugging in that plug into one of the other outlets as stated in the videos I posted to cancel out the fault and allow the system to work. As creamyone has already answered, it WOULD work if the trucks generator had a “floating neutral” which it does not unfortunately. However, it does sound like it will work for the smaller 2.0kw and 2.4kw systems for those that have them.

Well, the 2.4kW PowerBoost is a bonded neutral not a floating neutral. And at the end of the day your post was about an interlock yet you posted an ad for a bonding plug... Just reading the obvious...

I'm just hoping someone near Tampa gets one installed so I can just call their electrician :)

First off, thank you all for the great discussions on this topic. After installing an interlock kit and ordering a Powerboost with 7.2KW pro power, I was disappointed to learn there is not a safe, practical work-around. Wish I found this forum earlier! I'm not an electrical engineer, is there any chance Ford or a 3rd party manufacturer could create a workaround converter that could be installed by the panel to safely switch to floating neutral so I can use the truck for backup for my home?

Best guess, you'd have to swap out the inverter to get it to be floating neutral, and that would likely cause other issues with the software in the truck

Not sure how far back your read in this thread, or perhaps in the other similar threads.

There is an approved (and safe) solution (not work around). You have to install a Switched Neutral Transfer Switch. That's it. That's the answer.

We have an electrician coming Friday to install the Generac 6852 transfer switch. We just need to figure out which circuits to move over. Also having him run a circuit for our TT for when we bring it to the house from storage and an additional outlet in the soffit on our patio for some patio string lights.

Do they make a transfer switch that will work that can use more than 6 circuits?

Assume you are asking about Switched Neutral Transfer Switch.

Reliance list models that have 10 and bigger one with 24.

Also you can use slim/thin breakers and double them up in a slot. Shouldn't necessarily double all your breaker slots as you could exceed the box's total. But generally about 1/2 the slots could be populated with a double, so the 10 breaker box could have 15 total breakers. The 24 could have 30 to 40.

Yea i was talking about a transfer switch box. I'm not a electrician and i looked on reliance website and there are a ton of transfer switches. Is there a particular 10 circuit one that would be recommended? Another question i have is with a transfer switch installed do you still need to put a interlock on your main box?
