For anyone who is curious, I’m sure there are a high number of trucks approaching 100,000 miles. Which is a perfect time to do a filter swap. Just did a filter and fluid service on a fleet f150 with the 5.0. 100,000 exactly on the odometer. I’ll post some pics of the filter and the fluid. Fluid had more metallic flakes than I would have expected which is hard to tell from pics. Was a process that could easily be done on a garage floor on ramps. I had a full shop at my disposal which helped a lot.

Filter also has a magnet on the bottom with uh caught quite a bit of debris. Transmission shifted fine and no issues. Truck isn’t ran to hard and I believe towing is minimal. Was about 6 1/2 quarts to get it between 5 & 6 on the dipstick at 205 degrees. I have torque specs and procedures if anyone is interested.

How does it run after the service? Did you notice any significant change?

I work at an independent shop so I didn’t have much drive time before the exchange. But it shifted great after. Customer had no complaints about shifting.

I did a vacuum and refill on my 21 f150 and shifts better than before. Mine shifts beautifully. (Knock on wood)🪵

Did you reuse the pan gasket? How did you monitor trans temps for fluid level checking?

I replaced the gasket but I’m pretty sure it is reusable. Nothing wrong with the old one, fleet company wanted it all replaced.

I used a scan tool to monitor the temp, just brake torqued it in the bay to get temps up. What I found interesting is I got the temp to 205 but the gauge on the dash was barely above cold. So don’t rely on that gauge for level checking.
If you have FORscan you can access the temp that way or another form of scan tool. I do believe if you go into engineering mode, I think it’s in there also.

Very cool, thank you. I use a Veepeak dongle and OBD fusion. Should be able to view trans temp there.

No problem!

I was using an autel Maxisys scanner, I couldn’t find the PID for trans temp, just an fyi if it decodes the PiD like the autel did, it’s under Raw Transmission Fluid Temp. Usually is alphabetical order and you’d think itd be just Trans temp. So just look out for that!

Looking at those metal shavings and color of the fluid i think i'll be changing mine at 50k at the MOST 😂
Consider those pictures a warning I guess. 😂😂

I was expecting some but not as much as there was. Couldn’t get good pics of the fluid but had a nice shiny hue to it for sure.

On my Septemeber build '25 302A, the trans temp -digital readout, not analog representation - is available in the "measurements" screen in the menu selections on the instrument cluster. Is that not available on earlier versions, or is it just not accurate? I can watch the temp change as I drive ranging from ambient at startup to a high of about 185 (its been cold here) that I've observed so far.

I believe that was introduced in 25. My 21 does not have digital numbers under the temp gauge. I had to activate through FORscan.

It’s very cold here in MN later and sometimes I don’t see my temp getting high than 120. ECT is always around 180.

Gotcha. Finally, something added to, not deleted from, the '25's LOL! How long a drive gets you 120? I've got a 1500' elevation drop in the first 5 miles of my AM commute then flat going for another 17, before another 1000' climb. It seems to take along time before the trans gets much heat in it at all, especially starting at -10F last Friday.
