2024 F150 Power Boost Lariat
I just recently bought a 2024 F150 PowerBoost Lariat SuperCrew. I went to a dealer to compare problems I've been having with the truck to another truck just to validate if they are actually issues or not.

There was a few differences however one verify noticeable.

  1. The XLT model drove much faster and did not feel sluggish compared to my lariat model. The XLT accelerated faster and just felt like it had more power.
    1. My Lariat drives kind of sluggish. Its quick but it definitely did not feel as quick as the XLT, it feels like it has to try harder to move as quick.
  2. The suspension on the XLT is significantly smoother. The XLT did have 18" rims vs my lariat has 20" rims and the tires were not the same so there's that to factor in however I didn't think my lariat would be very jittery every bump it hits.
  3. XLT had sharp brakes. My Lariat has spongy brakes.

Does anyone else have these issues? Anyone have any thoughts on why my lariat might be slower than the XLT? Just looking to validate if i might have an issue with my lariat or not.

Did they have the same gearing and engines? Were they both power-boost models? I didn’t think you could get an XLT as a power boost. There’s also 3.31 gears axle and 3.73 axle gears. Vehicles with smaller rims and more rubber tire between the rim and the road will always ride softer. The smaller wheel diameter will also lend itself to less rotational mass and therefore slightly snappier acceleration if everything else is the same. If the XLT is not a hybrid and yours is then that would explain the difference in brake pedal feel.

Weight difference is my guess.

I would definitely say it's the weight difference from the extra Lariat bells and whistles and especially the bigger wheels.

XLT is the lowest trim for the PowerBoost (except for fleet sales) and they all come with the same drivetrain setup in 2024- 4x4 and 3.73 gears, so they would be equal in that regard.

The comment about braking makes me think it wasn't a PB XLT. The spongy braking sounds a lot like regenerative braking.

I had the same experience. I test-drove both Lariat and XLT. The Lariat felt heavier and stiffer ride. I am leaning towards a XLT.

It’s mostly more driven by the rim size and tires on each. I swapped my XLT to 20” rims and noticed quickly a drop off in performance and ended up switching back to the 18” rims with 285/70 18’s. My XLT is also an EcoBoost so there’s no added weight for hybrid system. Might be apples to oranges but that’s my take on the question asked.

2023 f150 tremor
I just got out of a 4 month stint in a 4x2 23 lariat rental5.0. I own a 23 tremor 3.5. Holy shit that lariat was a fucking pile of shit! Slow, gutless, rattles, electrical gremlins. It’s like it wasn’t even made by the same company. Rental only had 30k too and was overall clean and not beat on.

Honestly if the rental was the one I owned I’d sell it for a Chevy or Toyota. Quality of build was dog shit. It’s like it wasn’t the same truck at all.

Can you provide more info for each truck such as engine, rear gear ratio etc. etc.?

Doesn't the Lariat have a different 4x4 system? Where both in 4x2 mode? Maybe the Lariat was in 4A. If the tire diameter is the same I doubt the difference is due to wheels. These are not race cars. The ride will be softer on the XLT wheels. LT tires are stiff.

Yes, you can get XLT, XL both in PB. It's probably the weight difference in trim models.

Bigger wheels = more unsprung weight. Bigger rims will rob acceleration so if you go from 18 to 20 you’ll feel that. Lariat is also heavier truck so with the same power it will be slower.

I have been in (and am in one again) - dealer provided Enterprise rentals - all are way over 30K miles. I am currently in a 55K mile '23 Explorer, everything works, but it is clearly a rental - beat up in every way! They started well, but understand that the other 50 to 100 drivers just didn't care. This Explorer rattles, has wind noise and makes suspension noises. My neighbor has the same model with few miles, but is completely different experience. Chalk it up to many different drivers who just don't care.
