Hello,

Been enjoying my Tremor for some time now, I recently threw some Method 703s + MIckey Thompson LT Baja Boss A/T 34x12s on. Each wheel+tire weighs 15lbs more than stock (100lbs now), and just under an inch taller than the factory 275 General Grabbers.

I'm trying to figure out if it's worth it to re-gear to a 4.10/4.56 given the new tire weight and diameter. I do plan on putting 35s on here, likely the new KO3s (this winter).

What is everyones experience with re-gearing? My local Ford Performance dealer quoted me $5500 for a 4.56 job. Kind of steep.

Try it out see if you notice a change. If you don’t or it’s minimal I wouldn’t spend the money. Just recalibrate speedo for new size and call it good.

3500 actually seems cheap if it's 4wd. I'd say it depends on what you currently have. 3.55's, I wouldn't change them in an Ecoboost or powerboost. Might think about it if it was a 5.0. I'd definitely consider it if the current gears are 3.31's

I've gone back and forth between 55lb 34" LT tires and 41-45lb 33" passenger tires and the difference in performance really isn't that noticeable on my 3.5EB with 3.55 gears. If your new wheel and tire combo was 50lbs heavier per corner, I'd be more concerned, but an added 15lbs per corner really isn't that bad.

If you feel like your truck is lazy getting up to speed when you go WOT from a stop, different gears can absolutely help, but after you're moving they don't make a massive difference with the 10R80. In 10th gear 4.56 gears will raise your RPM at a given cruising speed by 22.2% or roughly 350RPM, at lower speeds or higher loads they will just cause your trans to upshift sooner so you'll be in 5th gear with 4.56s as opposed to 4th with 3.73s

Going to 4.56 gears you would definitely want to get your truck tuned so it may better to just start off with that and swap out your gears if you still want more. I swapped from 3.55 gears to 4.10s on my 2014 5.0 6R80 F150 and it did make a very noticeable difference with the 6-speed, but it was only worth 0.3s in the 1/4 mile. Going from 3.73 gears to 4.10s wouldn't be worth it in my opinion as you would barely notice the 9.9% difference. Swapping to 4.56 gear would be more noticeable, but your 1st gear might be pretty useless. 35" tires are only 6% taller than your stock 33" tires and 4.56 gears are 22% shorter than your stock 3.73s.

$3500 seems too low if the shop is supplying all the parts. I'm not sure what a normal labor rate is in Oregon, but swapping front and rear gears is a roughly 16hr job going by the book time. In my area you'd pay at least $2,800 in labor alone. After you add in the gears, install kits, and fluids, you're easily at $4,000-$5,000 depending what parts you choose.

I rebuilt the rear in my old 2013 and I want to say I was at around 600 with just the rebuild kit. No gears, or diff.

Not worth regearing a Tremor that comes stock with 33” tires and 3.73 gears to 4.10 gears for 35” tires, let alone for 34” size tires even though they are heavier. Any shop that gave you a price for that job rather than telling you the same thing wouldn’t get my money ever again.

I check the difference in tire circumference and if it is 5% or less then I don't worry about the gears. I also get 4.10 or 3.73 gears for off road vehicles although my 2022 has the 3.55 gears. From Ford the specs for GVWR for the ecoboost 3.5L increases by only 200 lbs with the 3.73 gears as compared to the 3.55 gears (which I have).

Where I have been concerned was with acceleration with larger tires and having a heavy payload or tow load. I want as fast a 20 mph to 60 mph to be able to safely merge with truckers on the freeway. Off the road the taller gears with larger tires are not going to be a factor, especially with the option of shifting into the low range gears.

Did you ever do this?
Negative. Sticking to 3.73s. Worried about HW MPG, though It may not change much if at all. The 10R doesn't seem to be doing me any favors with the huge 12.5" wides I have, and the 2" level makes this thing a fridge going down the freeway lol. 3.73s are here to stay. Good balance imo.

4.10 would put you back very close to the factory overall gear ratio at the ground. From 33 to 35 inch tires is essentially 10% change.
It’s rather debatable if that would be worth the cost. Personally, drivability will be better, efficiency will be better, mileage probably be better. My thought is it it’s gonna be better on the transmission.

I haven’t priced gears in quite a while. Bearings have not been getting cheaper over the years. Not sure if the shop you choose will replace bearings or not. When I used to run Jeeps back in the 90s, shops would charge between 350 to 500 just for the labor. A set of gears & shop prices are quite a bit more now. I can see the labor for each axle being close to double that. I know the front axle is quite a bit more work than simply replacing the gear set with the axle housing in the vehicle

Agree with the others. Not worth it for existing 3.73's with the 10 speed transmission.
