Turn Signal Cameras???

Thanks for posting this! I could never get my tiny LED bike rack lights to make this work. Research lead me to believe the LED's just did not offer resistance to make the truck think something was working properly. I then thought about cutting the LED lights and attaching some regular bulb lights to see if that would work. It looks like it might. However I never got motivated enough to go through the work. I may try again someday.

Before I burned resistors by turning turn/brakes ON, it still worked with 100 Ohm resistors. I believe that light bulb check and trailer presence check sends minimal current there, so LEDs should do the job as well.

I also bought 3 bulbs and will try tonight. They won't be in parallel to anything so I think they will works as well.

Again - if cameras are displayed on instrument cluster like on Korean cars, that is useful. Since our cab is very wide and you need to check mirrors and then display, I can't say I enjoy this setup a lot.

My dad had a Hyundai Sante Fe with this turn signal - side view feature but the side view was in the instrument cluster. A little more convenient. It was nice but really not used often. However it was another piece of safety information that was there if needed, or ignored if not. That is why after a couple of attempts for me I developed Plan C but never acted on it as it was "low priority". If it was a quick fix, that would be great but when the quick fixes did not work, it was shelved for a rainy day.

IMO if the camera's are there, and it is a feature that is present for trailers, this should be an option too. Let it come off by default and you have to turn it on and answer some warning for liability purposes if that is their concern.

Hi,

I haven't had time to replace my non-fancy resistors with light bulbs due to rainy weather, but had time to study wiring diagram which is attached.

Two fuses and three relays for the trailer in the engine compartment which are controlled by BCM. Then straight lines to the rear 4 and 7 pin sockets. On the way there's thin line going to trailer control module for light check and trailer presence check. I marked them in blue.

New idea - to forget putting something into 4 or 7 pin sockets outside, but will do a mod inside engine compartment.

Load - my 3 light bulbs.
They will be connected via 3 small relays to engage and disengage them.
Relay coil to be controlled via roof factory click buttons. I want to have option to quickly disengage my setup for whatever reason.

Photos to follow. going to find relays now.

Any questions - please let me know. I also want to replace bulbs with resistors, but will take some time to find the ones with sufficient power.

Even if you get the resistors to work are you ok with loosing the other features?
My truck will not do bluecruse and other things when my trailer is attached.
Unless there has been a work around that I haven't read.

Blue cruise works on certain highways only, right ? None of them are in Kazakhstan where i currently live.

Lane keeping is still active. Adaptive cruise as well.

Rear park assistant is lost, but we have rear cameras and I will wire all setup to roof switches for quick disabling when I don't need it.


Naturally, after driving for a few more weeks I will give a feedback whether this 20dollar mod is worth spending time and money on it.

My car audio friend told me about a way that they can get my mirror cameras to display on my screen when the turn signal is selected. He said it does so much more.

I know that I dont want to give up the rear cameras and monitoring. Losing bluecruse is not a issue because I use openpilot. Bluecruse is aggravating.

It is a different architecture so might not work with the same coding.

I have received components, but didn't have time to wire everything under the hood, therefore testing on the back plug again.

This time - on round trailer socket and way more powerful resistors. I got those which are usually installed on parallel to led lights to avoid error says that light bulb is defective. 50w 8ohm. Ford likes them and thinks trailer is attached.

Ground to left turn/brake
Ground to right turn/brake
Ground to parking lights.

All works fine.

Plan next:
To place it all under the hood

To have relay with roof switch toggle to disengage this feature when not needed, e.g. in the night

New addition - will wire additional relay to disconnect this features once the car is in reverse. I still like rear parking sensors and parking dynamic lines. Idea - once I put a truck in reverse, all resistors are disconnected and ford assumes trailer is gone. I hope it won't throw any errors at this moment. Will check and come back.

Outstanding! This did get the side camera to turn on in the display when you used your turn signal? Making sure your back up camera is still working is key. Good luck and keep us posted. You are making more progress than everyone and that unit alone looks great.

Correct. I have side cameras on the main display once I have turn signal on.

I have reverse camera as well, but dynamic steering lines are gone and parking sensors. Ford thinks there's a trailer attached and switches those options off for an obvious reason.

My 22 was in the shop yesterday and needed to stay overnight for the half shaft bolt recall. There was a bullitin for the BCD to be updated (I complained about low power mode Powerboost stuff) so I asked if they could also do the IPMA and APIM at the same time. They did it for free. So hopefully I am now updated enough that I can do the Forscan changes for the lane change feature when towing?
