Just like that, three years of ownership has passed and the final payment went into Ford just the other day! Once again, no car payment.

Congratulations! That's an awesome feeling. Hoping to be there by end of year pending any unexpected financial burdens. Now is the time to blow money on mods

Now count down 6 or 7 years of payment free driving and that is how you squeeze the overall annual "cost to own" down to a nice number. If you truck is basically problem free, roll with it!

Now, keep the same payment, but squirrel it away in a separate account at the bank. Out of sight, out of mind. I have a monthly auto transfer set up to just do this for me. This gives you a really nice down payment for when it is time for a new one, and it’s also a nice safety net for any major repairs. The best is if you can get ahead enough to have the ability to purchase with no loan. Given that these things don’t last forever, you know it’ll always be an upcoming expense.

That is what we do. Not the same amount, but we manage to put away something every month. That is what allowed us to pay off the truck in 3 years, we had a sizable down payment.

Yes, my car I sold was 11 years old and my wife's Suv is 9. We try to keep them for a while, unless they develop major problems.

I'm jealous. I have 7 more to go on my 3 year, 0% Ford loan.
