Good morning,

Yesterday I took my 2022 PowerBoost into the dealership because of a low vibration/hum at 1500–1900 RPM, occurring at any speed and in any gear as long as the engine was engaged. It only happens briefly and when the gas is barely pushed. The technician was able to duplicate the issue and performed a known TSB (Technical Service Bulletin).

During the post-test, they found erratic shift patterns, torque converter shudder (which they identified as the low vibration/hum mentioned above), and have 100% recommended a complete transmission replacement at a cost of $11,500. They explained this is because the torque converter is internal to the transmission.

Maybe look for a salvaged tranny from a 2023. These have the new CDF drum design. I have no idea how much this would save you, but it is an option.

Bummer, with a bit of a conundrum .... you've still got 20k miles left on the hybrid components warranty and some of those are in the tranny assembly.

But for that I'd jump on a competent non-dealer complete salvage tranny installation, but the decision is a bit harder given that hybrid stuff in a complete salvage tranny wouldn't be covered by the OE hybrid warranty.

Ultimately would depend on the amount of savings and confidence with the salvage unit.

Wishing you best of luck in a very unfortunate situation.

They explained this is because the torque converter is internal to the transmission.
Whoever told you that, is an idiot. The TC sits in front of the trans in the bell housing-DUH. Unless that is what this mo-mo considers "internal" to the trans. You can get a new trans and converter that has been upgraded for 11G's, like a Suncoast upgraded 10R80 with a billet converter versus another stock 10R80. No explanation why the whole trans is bad and not just the converter? I'd find another dealer. If they are saying the converter is the issue and you have to replace the whole trans because the converter is "internal" to the trans, THEY ARE FULL OF IT-Find another dealer-

Just had mine replaced for the same thing. The torque converter was the initial issue and then metal was found in the transmission. Thankfully my extended warranty covered a large portion of it. The new transmission came with a three year unlimited mileage warranty which was helpful. Best of luck.

OMG! My 2025 started doing this a few weeks ago, and I just found this thread. Luckily, I only have 16k miles. I have yet to bring it to the dealer as I was gone on vacation, but I think I will go there right now. LOL

The PB has the 10R80MHT. I believe the torque converter is attached to the hybrid motor assembly.

So, apparently, you haven’t dealt with torque converters that have gone bad before. So here’s the deal, torque converter goes bad. It sends metal throughout the whole system. All that metal one garbage goes all the way through the transmission it trashes everything.

Two or three times out of 100 you might actually have a torque converter failed that doesn’t destroy the entire transmission. Most shops are not going to simply replace a torque converter that has failed and that has been proven to have a shutter.

And if this work gets done. You better put in a new trans cooler, and clean out the lines to and fo really well. You may have to replace those also.

That’s a valid point for many transmissuons, but the newer 10r80 (2021+) have an internal heat exchanger.

It's not internal and it hangs off the driver side of the transmission. It's a plate heat exchanger which functions both as a heater and cooler with coolant lines running to it. Plate heat exchangers are actually one of the most efficient ways to cool something.
