F-150 - Powerboost - 2023
Anyone else heard of this?

Have a 2023 f150 powerboost lariat with 61k miles now.

Since i purchased at 55k mikes, the transmissiom slips, slams and whines after warming up.

5 dealer services later.. they gave me a rough quote of 4k to drop the trans mission and diagnose from there. IF they find an issue, factory warranty would reimburse me that 4k$, if not im out that money.

Does this not seem strange for a truck thats still in powertrain warranty? Canada truck, so powertrain is 100k km (62k miles) 400 km left lol

No MIL since the first first two services, in which they wiped the pcm and replaced random components throighout the truck.. start generator assembly and some pig tails.. and 2 adaptive shifring wipes.

Dealer was able to replicate all the transmission issues.

Sounds a lot like a CDF drum bushing migration. That’s gonna be an entire trans rebuild.

Your dealer just wants you to go away. Ford has criteria which, when meant via testing and/or codes, will require certain repairs. The CDF drum issue is one such case, but it was fixed in late 2022 MY transmissions so your 2023 should not have this issue (I believe it is physically impossible for the bushing to move).

Go to another dealer with all your documentation.

IME your dealer is following best-practice of warning / advising a customer that diagnostic procedures incur a cost, and IF the findings of the diagnostics procedure are not eligible for warranty coverage by Ford, the customer will be responsible for that cost.

IMO there's nothing odd or untoward about that, it's a best-practice to avoid customer surprises and protect the dealer from claims of non-disclosure.

IF no warranty-eligible problem is found, Ford will not reimburse the dealer for costs incurred because (understandably) your warranty only covers warranty-eligible repairs. Do you expect the dealer to eat the not-insignificant cost of dropping the tranny and diagnostics IF they are not reimbursed by Ford?

If the dealer has replicated, and agrees that there is a problem, and it is under the warranty period, then no, I would not expect to have to pay to make it right.

I have had issues with my 2021 transmission where if I put it in reverse in the winter, the truck would start moving back and then stop moving. I either needed to rev it up and it would slam into gear at about 2100 rpm, or I would shift from reverse to neutral and back to reverse again and all was well. I documented everything.

My dealer dealt with Ford and followed everything that Ford had them do. This was all covered under warranty. When the problem persisted, Ford authorized a new replacement transmission at no cost to me. I am in Canada as well and had the transmission replaced at only 56,000km.

I do not know why your dealer wants to charge you to diagnose a Ford issue.

If its within the warranty period then what could not possibly be covered under warranty with a transmission doing what this one is doing?

I think this is the question I would ask the service manager before deciding whether to have them do the work or find another dealer. Only thing I could think of would be concealed damage caused by the previous owner or someone else who would have worked on it but how unlikely is that?
