Tailgate work surface as stand alone accessory?

I didn't order the bed package with the step etc. but I'm interested in the work surface as a stand alone item.

Did a search on the accessories page but no luck. There is a tailgate cover but its a match for the drop in liner, which I won't be using (prefer a mat).

I believe they are two different tailgate stampings, you can probably get the plastic part from ford but it may not be bolt-on-able without mods.

You can buy it as a 'replacement' part from the parts dept. But it will not fit on a standard tailgate, you have to have the tailgate step version in order to have the worksurface installed.

Even without step you can still clamp down wood using the holes in tailgate top.

I'd like the work surface but if it will require much modification ... Meh, I'll do something else.

here is a snapper of the tailgate with the work surface removed ( I was curious )
I dont know what the standard tail gate looks like, but if it doesnt have the stamped indent I doubt it will fit.

on my last truck I had the drop in liner cover on just the tailgate and it was honestly a better protector than the work surface is.

Same here. I just liked the flatter work surface than the one I have.

I'll have to look around, see what I can come up with.

Work Surface is nothing to write home about. The miscellaneous indentations get in the way and don't help in setting things down. The tailgate retention cables make it tough to lay long items out. I wouldn't look for it on a future truck and it might dissuade me from buying if the new one has it.

has anyone been able to track one down or a part number? mine is scratched up significantly and if it's not too expensive would like to replace it.

I’m also looking for a replacement part # for tailgate workbench as mine looks bad and has some damage when I purchased the truck. I’ve looked on parts website but didn’t have any luck. Any help would be much appreciated.

Just a wild guess looking at parts online.

ml3z9943121b might be it which is over $300.
Can't find any photos of it online.
ml3z9943121a is just a plain aluminum plate.
Plenty of photos of this part number.

Best to just go to dealer parts and figure it out there. They can see parts that we can't see on consumer websites.

i have that "pro work surface" or whatever they call it. I call it annoying. It's tough, i'll give it that, but i'd MUCH rather have a standard steel panel, with the same truck bed lining on it.
i wish i could just buy the non worksurface panel from the dealer, but it sounds like it wont fit.
