Has anyone found a way to prevent the tailgate from bouncing when driving when its down? I have the electric tailgate and its obviously spring assisted as it doesn't take much effort for it to be raised. My concern is it bouncing and slamming back down when I am hauling something too long for the tailgate to be in the closed position. With these pathetically short beds I find myself having to leave it down more and more and am concerned with the about of slamming it does when hit a dip in the road.

Has anyone seen anything like maybe a locking bar to keep the tailgate open?

Of course, I find something as soon as I post this, but looking at the tailgate boss from Ride88 may be exactly what I was looking for.

When carrying stuff with the tailgate down I'm invariably using ratchet straps for the load. Just run one over the end of the tailgate down to the safety-chain loop on my trailer hitch and there's no bounce. KISS.

Bungee cord from side of tailgate to hitch. Easy, fast and cheap.

I have same issue with power tailgate which is spring-loaded to fight gravity, hence you need significant down-force to prevent the bounce. Heavy lumber that fully extends across the gate will do this, but objects that require the tailgate "open" but don't fully extend across the gate, or don't place enough downward load will result in bounce. Tailgate Boss by RIDE88 does a good job at solving this fairly inexpensively. I solved the problem on my 2021 Lariat (with power gate) using 3/4" x 1-1/2" poplar boards with a 7/16" thru bolt to connect to the latch. I cut tapered slots to act as a wedge where it lays over the pins at the top - this wedges the tailgate down as the struts are engaging, then I tie it off with the ropes and everything is snug. Cost me under $20 but it turned into a tuning game to get the lengths and fitment to work perfectly. Next time I'll just buy the Tailgate Boss which is adjustable for any gate.

2023 PB 501a 4x4 short bed 7.2KW. PL=1658lbs.
If I have a load long enough to leave the tailgate open, I invariably have it ratchet strapped to the bed so, no.
