I had this error start happening 4 days ago, and I didn’t do anything to the truck (didn’t remove the tailgate, don’t have bed liner). Now it’s shows up every time I put the truck in reverse. I’m going to have the dealer look at it when I go in for the first oil change.

My issue is still unresolved. Have an 2nd appointment with dealer at end of month. I want to chat with the technician directly and ask for TSB to be repeated. After reading these posts I don’t think it was done correctly the first time. Ford???

Good morning! We definitely want to get to the bottom of this reverse brake issue. Can you please send over a private message with your VIN and the name and location of your local Ford dealer so we can look further into this for you?

Another with the same issue. Purchased on 18 Nov no issues, Dealer installed liner on 23 Nov then the warning appears. Spent the whole day at the dealer today 0720-1645 and nothing, they tried to say it was because I did a leveling kit... I even gave them the TSB 21-2249... Tech said he couldn't do anything because it didn't have and "U" codes.. guess he didn't read the whole "with or without" the code part of the TSB. Going to try a different dealership...
Hi there, Richard. Can you send us a DM with your VIN and dealership info? I can look into this on my end.

Hello, I just picked up my truck from the dealer Monday (after they sent to Linex) and I see that I am in the "reverse brake assist error" club as well!

I understand your concerns but removing a tailgate is not an unusual task on a pickup truck. In fact, directions are fully outlined in the owner’s manual. In my case were in fact followed. No where does it state that this will cause a code to appear. The instructions for clearing the code also don’t always work. Different people are getting different results on resolution which is causing additional confusion. I’ve seen ford representatives on this site reach out to different posters about this issue but have not seen any single resolution. As stated before not a major issue but very frustrating.
Hello! Just took delivery of a 2021 F150 and it has the “reverse braking assist not available”

so I consulted the manual and drove backward on a straight road and nothing. Anyone else solve it? I know it was an issue with explorers too.

I have to go to the dealer on Tuesday for some we owe things but I was hoping to keep it out of service so far. Thanks in advance
did you have a bed liner sprayed, they remove tail gate & causes the problem, a lot of people are having the problem but no one tells you the fix, frustrating!!

Some 2021-2022 F-150 vehicles may exhibit a Reverse Brake Assist Unavailable message displayed that will not clear when DTCs are not present and the vehicle has been road tested to relearn the steering wheel angle center. If this is the case, enable the rear view camera in the touchscreen and note what is seen in the image. The bottom of the image should include most of the rear bumper, but the license plate or the tailgate mounted Ford emblem should not be visible. The rearbumper should also be centered in the image. If the camera is pointing too far downward or is off center, apply some flock tape to adjust the camera angle and resecure the camera while noting the effect on the image. Once the camera image has been corrected, perform the appropriate FDRS camera alignment procedure thenverify the Reverse Brake Assist Unavailable message is no longer present.

Speaking with the LINE-X franchise this morning, they stated they've consulted with a few of the local Ford dealerships and they follow the procedures outlined since they have this happen on all '21 and '22 Fords they spray. They've been told by Ford to verify the camera and the sensors work. If both work, then it may take up to 20-30 miles for the system to relearn. If it doesn't, then the customer has to go to the dealer for recalibration. There is a bug in the system that doesn't allow it to relearn apparently. I have an appointment with the dealer next Wednesday.

Yes, I had the error appear after spray liner. I had it happen once before the spay liner but after spray liner it happens every time the the truck is restarted. I can make the error code go away by driving slow for approximately 10 min but reappears after restart. I was contacted by Ford social media relations and have been assigned a Ford customer relations contact number but my dealer is unable to get me appointment until January due to Covid. They preformed TSB back in November which they stated didn’t resolve the issue and wanted to replace a coax cable. They never ordered the cable and I had to re-contacted them to restart the process. I really think they need to re-run the TSB. This seems to be a software bug not a hardware issue. Ford instructed me to notify them when the truck is back at dealer service. I’ll update after next visit. Frustrating but not a major drivability concern. I just don’t want my dash to be pulled apart to find out they just need to follow the TSB which seems to correct the issue.

My camera seems to be pointed correctly per the info provided here; can see most of bumber and straight back OK. I'm not thrilled about returning it to the dealer so hoping for a fix on my end without the trip in.

Thanks for this information. Unfortunately my rear camera is centered and as per the deception has the correct angle. I just checked after reading your post.

Not necessarily "Line-X" per-se, but rather after disconnecting wiring to the tailgate and/or removing of the tailgate and putting it back together. Something in that process throws everything off, just as you would expect from a $50/60/70K+ trucks....

Happened to me today; picked up the truck from Line-X where the tailgate was removed for bedliner. Camera is working fine. Line-X boss said I am not the first one who had this problem and apparently the very vague "recalibrating" procedure in the Owners Manual (why the hell do we need to recalibrate anything after removing the tailgate?) doesn't seem to work.
