Hi! This is my first time posting but I am getting ready to order a 2024 F-150 Platinum which I am going to have held to be started with Job 2 so that I can get the pro access tailgate. My question is whether I should get the retractable rear center step. I am 4' 11" and use my tailgate step as a way to get into and out of the truck bed. Considering my height would it be a good idea to get it as it looks like the tailgate step is not available if you get the pro access tailgate. Does it interfere with towing an RV or boat?

For what it is worth, I really like the tailgate step. At first I thought it would just be a good thing to have but now after using it, I am so glad I got it as it has far exceeded my expectations.

I also use an AMP Research corner step for quick getting up but for climbing in the bed, that tailgate step is wonderful.

Good luck with your decision.

It’s pretty hard to find information about this center step. It’s offered on standard tailgate trucks as well. I believe it is shown, but not really discussed, in this video starting at about the three minute mark on the white truck…

IMO, it’s not a lot of value for regular tailgate operations, but it could be useful in your case with the pro access tailgate.

I am 6 ft tall, and I use my step regularly. I love it. Speaking only for myself, I wouldn't have a truck without it. I also have plans to install an additional step from AMP like @Kodiak - not as a substitute for the center tailgate step, but to use at times when the tailgate needs to remain up.

I use the tailgate step almost every time I need to access the bed and I’m 5’11.

Actually this was quite helpful in my decision making since I was able to see the step placement and see it being used. Thank you for posting this!

Just to clarify since I think there may be some who misunderstand... there are two options available from Ford that are similarly named.

The new option is "Retractable Rear Center Step" which is a standalone option. It looks to me like a variant of the Amp Research BedStep (or BedStep2) only in this case it is mounted under the rear bumper near the center line of the truck. Watch the video I linked above at around the 3-minute-mark. I imagine this new option would be useful for shorter people who want to climb into the tailgate with the Pro Access tailgate swinging open as shown in the video. It would not be accessible with the tailgate swung down in the traditional manner.

The existing option is "Tailgate Step" which is the step that stows inside the tailgate and is often part of the Bed Utility Package. It deploys from the tailgate when it is folded down.

These are two different options, and I believe the OP is asking about the new option, not the existing option.

Does anyone know what the Ford P/N is for the Retractable Rear Center Step?

I have used the tailgate step a bit, but many times I need access to the truck while the tailgate is shut. I have always just stepped on the tire....doesn't anyone do that anymore?
