Both are crew cabs 4x4 trucks. One is a 302a Hybrid XLT and the other is a 501a Lariat with a regular 3.5 engine. Which truck would retain its value better or is it about even? Thanks

Batts aren't expensive. Never have been, never will be.

Agreed. Same principle applies to EVs - just at a greater scale.

Are you sure about that?

~$3000 in parts alone.

It's only slightly less expensive than the 3.5EB long block:

~$3900

Maybe everything is relative. Would you consider long block replacements expensive?

Another question... will the 3.5EB long block last longer or will the hybrid battery last longer?

When it first came out the battery for my 2015 Fusion Energi was $10k. Now they can be obtained for $4k. I think places like Greentec Auto will eventually carry the F-150 batteries for less than $1k.

BTW...9 years and 135k miles with close to 2000 change/discharge cycles and my Fusion Energi battery still has 75% of the usable capacity left.

Does the hybrid have the 7.2 kw generator? Because I feel like that would make a difference.

Admitting I've never understood buying a vehicle based on resale value guesses. Mybe that's because for me resale is in the very far distant future and there's just no telling what the market will bear by then.

For me it's choose a vehicle based on what meets my needs and makes me happy day-to-day, take care of it and keep it a loong time .... the eventual resale value washes out in the bigger picture of great long-term economies.

I guess it's different for others, maybe if I flipped vehicles every 2-5 years it'd be different for me.

Waste of time to consider resale on a consumer vehicle. Simply not significant.

I understand it, although I've never done it.

If you plan on only keeping a vehicle for a fixed period, knowing what it's worth at the end tells you the cost/year.

As for me, I've never given up a vehicle that was still usable. (but, really, I will some day!)

Although I *did* sell my mother in law's vehicle when we had to become her guardians.

Agreed. To get a PB without that 7.2kw is neutering one of the biggest features.

With that said the Lariat will probably be a nicer truck but the 302a + PB makes this a nice truck that is on another level with the PB as long as it has the 7.2kw. Check the repair history too. Good luck.

100% agree that 7.2kW is only way to go with PB if you intend to use it cover much of a trailer, a well in power outage or a house.

Yeah - Batteries aren't rocket science
https://www.ebay.com/itm/225408242445

When demand warrants it a very inexpensive rebuild kit will be available just as has been done for other hybrids.
So… we’re going to use an eBay sourced battery for a different vehicle(where the description indicates a limited quantity) as a reference point?

Is anyone able to weigh in on: is the expected service life of the 3.5EB long block or the hybrid battery longer? Which one do you (or Ford) expect to be replaced first?

8 year warranty on the battery. Truck ain't gonna be worth anything at that time anyway.
